The Domaine Bart Marsannay Les Ouzeloy 2020 is arguably the biggest dog in the pack by a modest margin, with more insistent mineral tones. Ouzeloy is also a well-known source for Joseph Roty bottlings, and we’re pretty sure Bart’s version has unwound a bit over the last year. From Burghound, “Riper aromas of plum, dark currant, earth and spice lead to the sleeker and finer still medium weight flavors that possess equally good tension and minerality on the mildly austere and balanced finale. This could use more depth though the underlying material appears to be up to the task if given a few years.” We think depth is not an issue now.  

The Domaine Bart Marsannay Le Grands VIns 2020 leans a little ‘redder’ than some of its stablemates fruit-wise with some higher tones to the aromatics. From Burghound, “Exuberantly fresh aromas are comprised by notes of layered black cherry, raspberry and floral top notes. The sleek, delicious and appealingly vibrant medium weight flavors exude evident minerality on the delicious, balanced and moderately structured finale.”

The Domaine Bart Marsannay Es Chezots 2020 is a new spelling for this vineyard because the appellation authorities (INAO) were concerned about people confusing it with a certain Grand Cru vineyard.  This is a bit different from the pack with a little bit cooler edge to the profile from a vineyard with a more northerly position and higher on the hill.  As such it is a little more reticent out of the gate and leans a little more to strawberry fruit with quite the streak minerality.  It has more of a familial resemblance to something from the other side of the family (Bruno Clair) than the other members of the portfolio.  Potentially the most complex of the lineup but it’s a fine line.

91+ Points! The 2018 Marsannay Les Ouzeloy wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, berries, loamy soil and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with ample reserves of fruit and powdery structuring tannin, this is a serious cuvée, built for the long haul. As readers may remember, it was with this lieu-dit that the Roty family's association with Marsannay began, as Joseph Roty was hired to work the vineyards here by Monsieur Dupont-Tisserandot, who rewarded him for his labors with a plot of vines. - William Kelley, robertparker.com
