From the winery: Our 2021 Pickberry Merlot comes from the firm, clay-based soils, about 600' up the northern slopes of Sonoma Mountain. Mother Nature pushed ripeness faster on us than in previous years, trading out lighter herbaceous notes of previous vintages for a focused fruit profile. The wines massive structure coupled with Pickberry's signature blue fruit and intense menthol notes is just right on.

100 Points! Wow. Fabulous aromas of currants, rosemary, mint and orange peel. Perfect nose. Full body with perfectly integrated tannins. It's long and incredible with tangerine, toasted-oak, berry, terracotta and chocolate flavors. It lasts for minutes on the palate. Joseph and Philipp Brundlmayer are passionate not only about winemaking but also their family history, one that is intimately connected with spectacular vineyard sites that they work entirely by hand. In the 1980s Joseph turned a passion for winemaking into a full time profession, taking the grapes that were normally sent to co-op and teaching himself how to make wine, but even more importantly adding vineyard sites. Not just any vineyard sites, the ones no one wanted to work since they were too hard, too high, too terraced. In short, many of the best sites of the Kremstal. It was when his son Philipp joined him in winemaking in 2015 that things really took off, innovations in winemaking, labeling and attention to low intervention vineyard management. Everything is done by hand, cover crops are used to their fullest and no attention to detail is spared in the health of their 100 different vineyard plots or in the meticulous cellar.

92 Points! This maturing, medium-bodied red offers appealing earthiness and really restrained black berries. Remarkably good tannin structure for an entry-level wine. Impressive depth at the beautifully balanced finish. A cuvee of 70% rotburger, 20% sankt laurent and 10% blaufrankisch, all local varieties, that was matured until May 2023 in large, neutral oak casks. Drink now. - JamesSuckling.com

93-95 Points! Quite floral in mature with a nice freshness to the red, pit fruits, the wine is supple, creamy, sweet and fresh. There is a lush quality to the silky fruits, as well as a a touch of spice, elegant-textures and a plummy, fruity-packed finish. The wine is produced from 100% Merlot. 14.6% ABV, 3.7 pH. 92-94 Points! From a 4.5-hectare vineyard on the plateau of Pomerol adjacent to Le Pin and one of La Fleur-Pétrus's parcels, Jean-Philippe Janoueix's 2022 La Croix St Georges is the first produced with the input of consultant Thomas Duclos. Wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, minty berries, licorice and vine smoke, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a seamless, complete profile and compelling purity of fruit. A beautiful Merlot, the 2019 from PlumpJack offers everything you could want from this variety with its plump, fleshy, medium to full-bodied profile as well as terrific aromatics of black cherries, darker berries, leafy herbs, spring flowers, and a touch of chocolate. 91 Points! The 2021 Grüner Veltliner Fass 4 is deep, intense and pure, even saline on the stony and perhaps slightly flinty nose. Fruity, fresh and savory on the palate, this is a medium-bodied, round and saline, slightly bitter, stimulating and salty-finishing Veltliner with grip and tension. 91 Points! From younger vines, the 2021 Grüner Veltliner Der Ott offers a clear, intense and aromatic, pure and elegant bouquet of ripe pears. On the palate, this is a rich and intense, fresh and very elegant Veltliner with a long, aromatic and intense finish with fine, phenolic grip and a saline aftertaste.
