Coteaux Bourguignons

Just a fabulous Nuits that is drinking fabulously now. Chauevente's wines are always very forward for the area and this wine is no exception...delicious!

This is a juicy, spicy wine! The nose shows a little darker and somewhat more confectionary cherry component along with some sweet earth and intertwined mineral tones. In the mouth there is still a surprising vibrance to the dark cherry core with insistent elements of brown spices and mineral, though the mineral notes are more subtle than typical Nuits and perhaps affected by the wine’s inherent ripeness and bottle age. Delicious on opening, it is perhaps a truer test of this wine’s health that it showed little sign of oxidation the following day, shocking given this wine is over a decade and a half old. The color is a clear bright ruby with lighter but still red edges. Complexity, spice, and more bass notes here as befits this village.

50-year-old vines in a plot of .27 hectares. Average yield of 40hl/ha. Pre-fermentation cold maceration. Fermentation with native yeast and medium extraction. 18 months of aging in 50% new oak.

This village wine is from three parcels of about one hectare total size that are planted to vines of more than sixty years of age. The two primary parcels are in “Plantes Aux Barons” (.40 hectare) and “Charbonnieres” (.60 hectare), both of which are in Prémeaux on its northern border with Nuits. These low-yielding old vines produce a concentrated and classic Nuits.
