The full-bodied palate is powerful and richly fruited, with an abundance of rounded tannins and a long, flavorful finish with lingering floral accents. The 2023 Ode to Lulu Rosé is composed of 76% Mourvèdre, 16% Syrah, and 8% Grenache, sourced predominantly from centenarian vineyards in Contra Costa and Sonoma County. Picked at lower potential alcohol and whole-cluster pressed, the goal here is to highlight the beautiful aromatics and freshness while also feeling the natural weight of old vine Mourvèdre. What we have always loved best about the great Mourvèdre-based rosés of the world (Bandol being the most famous) is how they capture the piquant pink grapefruit and stone fruit fragrance of the variety while also letting the savory tarragon and wild herb pungency shine through. If the red wines from the variety tend towards earthiness and a terrestrial (sometimes downright funky) character, the best rosés have lip-smacking deliciousness and are almost terrifying easy to drink while being capable of developing complexity in the glass. We are very pleased with the 2023 and feel it to be a worthy iteration of what is one of the most acclaimed rosés made in the Golden State.

From the winery: The 2023 Sonoma Valley Sauvignon Blanc comes from three stony-soiled sites found throughout the Valley of the Moon. The majority comes from the north-facing slopes of Uboldi Vineyard in Kenwood, with the balance from Bedrock Vineyard on the Agua Caliente bench and Judge Vineyard in Bennett Valley. 70% of the wine was barrel fermented in predominately neutral French and Austrian oak barrels (in total about 8% new oak), and 30% was fermented in tank. The resulting wine nicely combines the musqué clone-driven perfume from the tank-fermented lot with the textural richness from the barrel-fermented portion. Fittingly for the cool vintage, this is elegant, flinty and mineral with aromatics of melon, green papaya, and citrus overlaying fresh and sappy fruit and bright acid. A lovely wine that we all plan to drink a lot of over the coming summer months.

96-98 Points! I tasted the 2022 Chardonnay La Carrière from tank on the day of its bottling. It has an alluring delicacy on the nose with soft scents of peach, apricot, meringue, toasted bread and honeysuckle with nuances of roasted almonds and flint. 96-98 Points! I tasted the 2022 Chardonnay Belle Côte from tank shortly before it was due to be bottled. It's lively and generous with singular scents of lemon drop, pie crust and toasted meringue, plus integrated tones of matchstick and allspice. The medium-bodied palate is defined by its lacy, lightly mouth-coating texture. The 2021 Red Wine California is a new Bordeaux-based red wine that Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts made initially to take the place of the 2020 Cabernets that would have been released around this time but were compromised by smoke. The Red Wine was initially intended to be a fun project, but Arnot and Roberts may have stumbled into what is really a pretty serious red with real potential. The 2021 is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon (Massa, Bedrock and Gordenker), 20% Cabernet Franc (Persia) and 20% Merlot (Massa). A powerful, old-school wine, the 2021 is going to need a few years to shed some tannin. I loved it. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

95+ Points! The 2021 Bordeaux Red Blend is the first iteration to include a significant amount of fruit from Farrow Ranch, Aperture's latest vineyard acquisition. It's a blend of 44% Merlot, 27% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Franc and was matured for 18 months in 50% new French oak. It has slowly unfurling scents of red and black currants, chocolate-covered cherries, integrated new oak spices, tobacco and tapenade. The palate is particularly elegant, balancing concentrated, nuanced flavors with a frame of velvety tannins and vibrant acidity that calls you back to the glass. - Erin Brooks, robertparker.com

98 Points! An absolutely brilliant wine, the 2021 Ontogeny is an appellation blend put together by Bevan, and it's a year-in, year-out incredible value. Competing with wines 2-3 times its price (if not more), it reveals a deep purple hue as well as an exuberant, full-bodied, concentrated style carrying loads of cr me de cassis, tobacco, violets, charcoal, and graphite-like aromas and flavors. Super-rich, opulent, yet flawlessly balanced, with silky tannins, you should buy a case of this if you can. It should have at least 10-15 years of prime drinking. - Jeb Dunnuck

Great value here from the famous Bedrock Vineyard (Shhh....)! From the winery: A punchy, spicy blend of zinfandel (80%), barbera (15%) and Alicante Bouschet (5%). The Zinfandel and Alicante were sourced from the Bedrock Vineyard in Sonoma. The fruit was from adjacent blocks so we picked both on the same day, co-fermenting them together. Traditionally this fruit has always been the base for our red table wine. We then blended in a few barrels of Barbera to level up the acidity and aromatics.

From the winery: Our 2021 Pickberry Merlot comes from the firm, clay-based soils, about 600' up the northern slopes of Sonoma Mountain. Mother Nature pushed ripeness faster on us than in previous years, trading out lighter herbaceous notes of previous vintages for a focused fruit profile. The wines massive structure coupled with Pickberry's signature blue fruit and intense menthol notes is just right on.
