  1. La Mission Haut Brion Rouge Pessac Leognan 1998 Pre-Arrival
    WA98
    $539.98
    Availability:Out of Stock

PLEASE BE AWARE, THIS IS A PRE-ARRIVAL WINE - YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED SHIPPING FEES UNTIL THE WINE(S) ARRIVE

98 Points! A candidate for the wine of the vintage from this somewhat forgotten year, consumers should be seeking out wines from the Right Bank and Graves as 1998 was a great vintage in those appellations. La Mission’s 1998 exhibits a healthy, opaque blue/purple color with no lightening at the edge. Thirty minutes of aeration brings forth a sensational bouquet of chocolate, cedar, truffles, graphite, blackberries, cassis and incense. La Mission’s so-called scorched earth/charcoal/hot rocks characteristic has not yet appeared. Full-bodied with superb purity, a multilayered texture, sweet tannin, good acidity and a fabulously long finish, this great, young La Mission-Haut-Brion’s finest days are yet to come. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040. - Robert Parker, robertparker.com, 2012

  4. Peby Faugères Saint Emilion 1998
    WA94
    $129.98
    Availability:In Stock

94 Points! Medium garnet-brick in color, the 1998 Peby Faugeres opens with a decadently fruity nose of blueberry compote, plum preserves and dark chocolate with wafts of sweaty leather, camphor, chocolate box and Ceylon tea plus a hint of truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of black and blue fruit preserves with the acid sitting nice and subtle in the background and plenty plush tannic structure in the forefront. It finishes on a lingering earthy / barnyard note. This wine still has a lot of fruit and life ahead of it, but you'll need to be able to appreciate that sweaty leather component to truly love this wine. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com, 2018

  5. Pavie Saint Emilion 1998
    WA97
    $499.98
    Availability:In Stock

97 Points! The 1998 Pavie is deep garnet-brick in color. So much fruit comes charging out of the gate here: profound crème de cassis, baked blackberries and blackberry preserves with notions of beef dripping, crushed rocks, unsmoked cigar, sandalwood and dried lavender. Big, rich and beautifully impactful, it is completely packed with taut, muscular black and blue fruit preserves, maintaining nice firm grainy tannins with layer after layer of exotic spices, meat and earth notions, finishing epically long and minerally. Should easily continue to cellar for 25+ years. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com, 2018

  6. Pape Clément Rouge Pessac-Leognan 1998
    WA92
    $139.98
    Availability:Out of Stock

92 Points! Showing signs of maturity on the rim, the ’98 Pape-Clement is evolving gracefully with a delectable tertiary bouquet: touches of damp earth, wild woodland, a hint of mushroom and chestnut tinged blackberry. Very fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, quite sweet on the entry, more advanced than I was anticipating but very well balanced with fine tannins: dusty black fruits, liquorice, freshly rolled tobacco, a hint of allspice with a slightly rustic, but utterly pleasurable finish. This may not be a long-term Pape-Clement, but it compensates in its generosity. Drink now-2020. Tasted July 2010. - Neal Martin, robertparker.com

    $1,299.98
    Availability:In Stock

96 Points! A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, the 1998 Lafite Rothschild is deep garnet with a hint of brick and gorgeous notions of sandalwood, crème de cassis, smoked meats, black pepper and garrigue with touches of chargrill, dried herbs and mincemeat pie. Medium-bodied, soft and plush on the palate, it has tons of mouth-filling savory and plum preserves flavors and a very long, savory finish. Delicious now, it should keep for 15-20 more years. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com, 2018

95 Points! The 1998 Maya (500 cases from a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc and 55% Cabernet Sauvignon) is an amazing effort, possessing multiple layers of fruit, sweet tannin, and no herbaceousness, astringency, or thinness. This is an amazing tour de force in winemaking for the vintage. It is loaded, with impeccable balance. - Robert Parker, robertparker.com, 2002

  11. Lynch-Moussas Pauillac 1996
    VM90
    $56.98
    Availability:In Stock

90 Points! The 1996 Lynch-Moussas is still surprisingly deep in colour, quite limpid, with little sign of its age. The bouquet is classic 'old school' Pauillac with pencil shavings infusing the black fruit, touches of cold black tea and mahogany bureau. The palate is medium-bodied with an East Asian-tinged opening, hoisin and a pinch of white pepper. This displays better than expected substance and cohesion, lightly spiced on its finely-tuned and quite vigorous finish. The 1996 is drinking perfectly now and, on this showing, should give another 12-15 years of drinking pleasure. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media June 2021

  12. Leoville Las Cases Saint Julien 1998 Pre-Arrival
    DEC98
    $269.98
    Availability:In Stock

98 Points! 1998 was a late flowering year but the grapes achieved perfect ripeness by harvest time. It's an excellent vintage that's generally known as a Right Bank year, but is more than holding its own over in St-Julien. At this point we are starting to see what a mature Léoville can do: the edges are softening to a russet colour and the cigar-box edge is apparent, alongside notes of hedgerow, undergrowth, rosemary, black cherry, cassis, and a touch of menthol on the finish. - Jane Anson, Decanter

93 Points! A limited release offering from Wild Duck include 75 cases of 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Made from 20-year old 100% Cabernet Sauvignon vines, it exhibits a saturated black purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of spice box, licorice, black currant liqueur, and classy new French oak. It is deep, full-bodied, and sweet, with supple tannin, and a seamless, concentrated finish that reveals notes of eucalyptus as it cascades over the palate. I was surprised by the sweet tannin as well as overall elegance. - Robert Parker, robertparker.com 2001 Learn More

  14. Barbacarlo Provincia di Pavia Montebuono 1996
Special Price $79.98 Regular Price $119.98
    Availability:In Stock
Importer notes: Montebuono, like the classic Barbacarlo blend has some Croatina, Uva Rara and Ughetta, but there is also a little Barbera in the mix. The vineyards sit next to each other and while the vines here are also up to around 100 years old and planted over tufo, the site is a little less steep than Barbacarlo. Despite its age this is a slightly richer, more full expression of Montebuono, with an abundance of dark fruits still very much at the fore. Learn More

98 Points! The opaque black/blue-colored 1998 Shiraz displays a fascinating bouquet of violets, black raspberry and blackberry liqueur, cedar, fruitcake, and pepper. 16. Noon Eclipse South Australia 1998
    WA98
    $69.98
    Availability:In Stock
98 Points! This was a remarkable showing for a 20-year-old Grenache-based wine (this vintage does contain 35% Shiraz). The 1998 Eclipse still retains a youthful, dark hue and vibrant aromas of dried herbs and spices joined with rich black cherry fruit. It's full-bodied, soft and luscious on the palate, adding nuances of strawberries, chocolate and licorice. It's a tour de force of South Australian winemaking that should remain at this peak for a few more years. - Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com September 2018 Learn More

  17. Noon Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve South Australia 1998
    WA96+
    $79.98
    Availability:In Stock
96+ Points! Even better is the 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Like its older sibling, it exhibits an inky/blue/purple color followed by an attractive bouquet of creosote, tar, creme de cassis, incense, and flowers, but no evidence of oak. This full-bodied, beautifully layered, stunningly pure, long effort is one of the most compelling Cabernet Sauvignons I have tasted from South Australia. It can compete with the best of Napa Valley or Washington State in terms of New World Cabernet Sauvignons. It should evolve over the next 10 years, and last for another decade thereafter. - Robert Parker, June 2009 Learn More
