Karneid, the vineyard site, is a high-altitude plot on the other side of the valley from the winery. These Schiava vines were already very old (plnated 1948!) when the Gojer’s purchased the site, hence the name ‘Alte Reben’, which means ‘Old Vines’. La Sibilla Falanghina Campi Flegrei 2022$19.98Availability:In StockFrom the importer: Proprietor Luigi DeMeo talks about the Campi Flegrei terroir more than the varieties, but they are also doing genetic testing on the Falanghina. Falanghina Beneventana, from around Benevento, to the north-east of Naples is a completely different variety than Falanghina Flegrea from the Campi Flegrei (near Naples). At La Sibilla, they are growing Falanghina Flegrea, and this is a very distinctive example of how delicious Campanian white wines can be.
It delivers a crisp minerally character while also showing appealing aromas and flavors of citrus, flowers, and tarragon. This is an excellent seafood wine. I also drink it as a dry aperitif, with olives and salami, while deciding what to make for dinner.

Colterenzio Schiava St. Magdalener Alto Adige 2020$14.98Availability:In StockFrom the importer: This wine takes its name of the vineyard where the grapes are grown. With wonderful aromatics and soft tannins, this Schiava is a great summer red. Served slightly chilled.
Varietal Composition: 95% Schiava (Vernatsch), 5% Lagrein
Elaboration: Fermentation occurs with the skin contact in stainless-steel tanks and is followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is then separated from the skins and transferred into concrete tanks, where it refines for four months.
Tasting Notes: Brilliant translucent ruby red in color with a fruity bouquet reminiscent of black cherry and violets expanding to a medium-bodied palate of red summer fruits; a succulent wine with mild acidity, medium length, and a soft and smooth finish.
