Bursting with aromas of sweet cherries, berries, rose petals and orange zest, the 2022 Bourgogne Côte d'Or is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a succulent, charming profile that belies its track record of aging with grace.

The irrepressible Vincent Guillemot had every reason to smile as he showed me his family's 2022 portfolio, a range of wines characterized by purity and generosity of fruit. As readers will remember, this seven-hectare estate is rather classical, the reds fermenting in wooden tanks with temperature control, followed by élevage with modest percentages of new wood. Whole clusters increasingly play a role here. 95 Points! From vines that were planted in 1910. This is aromatically similar to the regular cuvée but there is notably more concentration, power and dry extract to the broad-shouldered flavors that pushes the very firm tannic spine to the background on the hugely long, palate coating and driving finish. This opulently full-on effort is a manifestly old school Clos de Vougeot that is not only very much built-to-age but is going to require lots of it. In a word, excellent. - Allen Meadows, Burghound

From the domaine’s 0.50-hectare holding of 50-year old vines just outside the Maranges appellation, southwest of the winery. It is aged in tank and older barrels. Medium-bodied and supple, this wine shows red fruit (strawberry, cherry and cassis) and soft, well-integrated tannin.

From the importer: High in the hills above Pernand-Vergelesses and to the west you’ll find ‘La Garenne,’ a cool plot of older Pinot Noir vines (50 years+ on average) that delivers a juicy, joyful rouge that will make your mouth water. Bright red cherres, licorice, baking spices.

The estate’s “baby” Chambertin! With vines more than 70 years old and soils just as noble as those of premier cru vineyards just a stone’s throw upslope, ‘Clos Village’ is really the heart and soul of Gevrey. Round and harmonious, with plush purple fruits and an abundance of silk. Winemaker Damien Livera can walk from his cellar door directly into the heart of ‘Clos Village.’

All of the vines are estate owned, and François’s focus is in the vineyard. The wines are made at the family’s estate, Château de la Tour in Clos de Vougeot, using identical viticulture and vinification as Château de la Tour. Labet’s common sense approach to winegrowing has brought good fortune through wines of extraordinary merit.

Located above Clos de Réas, the origin of the word "Chaumes" comes from that this land was left fallow for a long time before being planted. Les Chaumes is one of the oldest plots of the estate, planted in 1919 and 1920 there are still vines that are 100 years old, although some die of old age vines get replaced by young plants. The plot is located just below the Malconsorts Premiers Crus, it has a shallow soil where the rock goes up to certain place of the parcel. Millerandage is common in the plot producing small concentrated berries. Edouard notes that there is a bench of hard rock in the middle of the plot, where it is hard to get the pickets in.

This smooth, polished Savigny really shows off the warmer, riper, finely structured 2018 vintage. Full of red fading to black cherry, this beauty is drinkable now but another half dozen years in the cellar will fully round it into form...a delight and a deal!

A villages wine that ages in step with the finest premier cru bottles. Raphet selects old-vine fruit (60 years or older) from ‘Clos des Ormes’ in Morey, as well as fruit from premier cru Morey-Saint-Denis ‘Millandes.’

Perfectly exposed to the southeast, this walled vineyard sits high up on the slope, and with its pure limestone soils, delivers a more refined, layered and complex red Burgundy.

Winemaker Etienne Delarche’s father planted these now 50-year old vines himself near the summit of the noble hill of Corton. Brooding and layered, with notes of licorice and peppery spice. Amazing value for Grand Cru...
