93+ Points! The very recently bottled 2021 Terra de Cuques Blanc was produced with 90% Pedro Ximénez and 10% Muscat with a moderate 13% alcohol, the minimum required by the appellation. It's serious, with good freshness, a little reductive at first but then more expressive with abundant notes of pollen and a honeyed touch, with a little skin contact that gives it character and some notes of quince and fine tannins. There's finesse and elegance and it's very clean. They have food in mind when they do the wines, so there is a constant search for freshness. The 2022 Gaba do Xil O Barreiro is from their own vineyards, 15 to 16 hectares in Larouco on red granite soils from a transitional place between granite and slate. 2022 was a warm year, a rounder and gentler vintage, and the wine is a little riper at 13% alcohol. Godello behaves differently from the single vineyards and has a rounder mouthfeel. It also has a more reductive profile, fruit-driven and with notes of flowers and herbs. 93 Points! The 2022 Louro still feels a little reductive and has pungent balsamic notes of bay leaf. It was a very warm year with constant heat and very healthy grapes. It keeps the freshness but still feels the roundness of the year. Most of the grapes were picked before the rain they had in September. 95 Points! The 2022 As Sortes feels very young and a little raw and undeveloped, with great freshness. Despite being a very warm summer, they had rain (20+ liters) that was absorbed by the grapes, which made a delicate wine, much fresher than expected. Of course, the high altitude of the vines and the late ripeness and harvest here also have to do with the fresh character of the wine, which transcends the character of the year. The spectacular white Godello 2021 La Salvación was produced with grapes from a one-hectare centenary plot in Arganza, the northernmost and cooler village in Bierzo, a plot that was regrafted from Mencía some 17 years ago. The destemmed grapes were pressed in a pneumatic press, and the juice fermented in 500-liter oak barrels after setting for 24 hours. It matured in those barrels for one year, with the lees but without bâtonnage. It has 12.56% alcohol and very good freshness and acidity, consistent with a cold year, with an expressive nose of dry flowers and pollen, aromatic and showy, open and clean, very precise and pure. 92 Points! The white 2019 11th House is produced as a collaboration between Iría Otero, Zak Elfman and Carlos Lorenzo. It is a blend of 85% Godello, 10% Loureira and 5% Treixadura that matured in barrel with the lees for 10 months. The élevage has marked the wine with aromas of spices and lees, and it's faintly smoky, with herb and yellow fruit flavors. Almost off the charts, the NV Pedro Ximénez Solera 1830 comes from the oldest Solera blend of the estate and spent on average more than 50 years in American oak casks, with some lots going back to 1830. Black, inky, and massively concentrated and rich, it has an insane bouquet of crushed raisins, figs, coffee liqueur, and caramel. While powerful and just about over the top, it stays clean and balanced, and just keeps on going on the finish. It’s another wine to sip after a meal. - Jeb Dunnuck

A true gem is the NV Amontillado Solera Fundación , a solera blend that spent 50 years or more in American oak casks, with some of the blend going back to the original blend started in 1729. It’s a tiny production release but offers extraordinary notes of caramel, toasted nuts, iodine, and blue cheese-like characteristics.
