  1. Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino 2019
    $229.98
    Availability:In Stock

Don't look for scores, much like other icon producers like Cappellano in Barolo, Cerbaiona does not send their wine out for reviews, preferring to let the juice speak. The Brunello is produced only in the best vintages... From the importer: There are now over 200 bottling producers of Brunello but when people speak of the top tier we are talking about an interchangeable 10 names depending one’s preference stylistically. Soldera, Biondi Santi, Salvioni, and Cerbaiona would be most people’s pick for top 5 Brunello producers (not necessarily in that order). What makes the Cerbaiona Brunello so unique is the conscious coupling of great terroir and minimalist intervention. What arrives is a clear representation of one of the greatest Brunello vineyards bottling wine today.

    JD94+
    JS96
    VM95
    $74.98
    Availability:In Stock

96 Points! Intense aromas of black cherries, lavender and spice, such as nutmeg. Some sandalwood and bark, too. Full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and tannins for the vintage. Rather chewy, suggesting that additional bottle age is needed. Try after 2026. - JamesSuckling.com

95 Points! Depths of dark, balsamic-tinged black cherry, plum sauce and autumnal spice make the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino impossible to ignore. This is velvety to the core, nearly opulent in feel, with a dense wave of ripe red fruits complemented by nuances of sweet lavender and tobacco. It leaves the palate clenched with fine tannins and primary concentration, creating a classic sensation that transcends the vintage. Nearly a minute goes by, and hints of cocoa and sweet herbs continue to resonate. Wow! Production at the Pertimali estate was down by 20% due to the spring frost, and the decision was made to place all of the juice usually intended for the Riserva into the straight Brunello, the result being one of the top wines of the vintage. - Eric Guido, Vinous Media

93 Points! Opening to a medium-dark garnet color, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino offers direct and thick lines with ripe cherry, blackcurrant, leather and tilled earth. The wine is structured and firm at the back thanks to the quality of the tannins, and it offers generous fruit texture and concentration. This is a textbook Brunello from a warm vintage. - Monica Larner, robertparker.com

93 Points! Sour cherries, orange zest, bark and tobacco leaves on the nose. Some olives and walnut husk. Savory and sleek with a medium body, tight-grained tannins and a chewy finish. Lovely pure sangiovese character. Better from 2024. - JamesSuckling.com

  8. Caiarossa Toscana 2018
    WS95
    JS96
    WA95
    $54.98
    Availability:Out of Stock

96 Points! This is extremely perfumed with violets, sage, lavender, currants and berries. Fresh and vivid. Medium-to full-bodied with super refined tannins and fruit. So subtle and refined. This is really long and gorgeous. Goes on for minutes. A change in style from past vintages and I like it. From organically grown grapes. So hard not to drink now, but better after 2023. - JamesSuckling.com

95 Points! Intense fruit flavors of blackberry, black currant, black cherry and spicy oak are the hallmarks of this red, which is balanced and well-integrated, fresh and long, but just needs two to three years to unwind. - Wine Spectator

95 Points! Tasted as an unfinished sample, the Caiarossa 2018 Caiarossa offers great insight into the forward-looking trajectory and the solid quality record of this gem of an estate on the Tuscan Coast. This is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante, with the saturated and dark fruit aromas of the Cabernet grapes in pole position. A deep core of black fruit is backed by exotic spice, tar and sweet licorice at the back. The finest work here is to the tannins, which (like in the preview 2019 sample I also tasted) remain very smooth and taut, giving the wine an elegant but determined backbone. - Monica Larner, robertparker.com

    VM94
    $31.98
    Availability:In Stock

94 Points! The 2018 Ghemme Dei Manzoni is powerful and quite brooding in bearing. Macerated cherry, spice, orange peel, leather, tobacco, incense and dried flowers all meld together. In the glass, the 2018 is wonderfully exotic and complete, with tons of nuance and persistence that just builds over time. It's a reference point wine for the appellation done in a strapping, old school style that is all about structure, tannin and size. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

95 Points! The 2018 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is not super intense, but it is balanced in its own way. The wine is subdued but complete with softly yielding tannins to support an elegantly streamlined mouthfeel. Bricco delle Viole is a high and cool growing site in Barolo at 400 to 480 meters in elevation with characteristic Sant'Agata marl soils with fossils. The wine represents a selection of fruit from over seven hectares. With fermentation in steel tank and aging in large Slavonian oak, you are invited to a silky, lifted and beautifully delicate experience with an accessible personality. - Monica Larner, robertparker.com

94 Points! The 2018 Valletta is a blend of Sangiovese from Gagliole’s vineyards in Castellina and Merlot from vineyards in Panzano. Supple and racy, the 2018 offers tremendous appeal from the very first taste. Ripe black cherry, mint, spice, espresso, and blood orange open with a bit of time in the glass. 16. Conterno Nervi Gattinara Vigna Molsino 2018
    WA96
    VM98+
    $169.98
    Availability:In Stock

96 Points! With vines planted in 1992 in a cozy and protected position within the folds of hills above Gattinara at 400 meters in elevation, the Molsino vineyard is known to produce extra fruit weight, concentration and power. This is definitely the case with the Conterno Nervi 2018 Gattinara Vigna Molsino. Of the two single-vineyard wines made at this estate (the other being the Vigna Valferana), I'm giving the aging edge to this bottle and have extended the drinking window as a result. During my tasting with Roberto Conterno, he described this wine as having "broader shoulders" and "more bite to the mouthfeel." Those are exact descriptions, and I would add that Molsino shows special dimension, in terms of both width and depth, with red and purple fruits that spread evenly over the palate. The wine's finish is powered by tarry smoke and campfire ash that add vertical lift and length. - Monica Larner, robertparker.com
