Pale to medium ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir JINSEI Tobias Glen Vineyard opens slowly to warm black cherries, cranberries, woodsmoke, bergamot, dried flowers and a touch of tobacco and graphite. Medium-bodied, it’s wonderfully concentrated and savory, with meaty touches intertwined with the dark, ripe fruits, juicy, grainy and finishing long with lots of nuance. From the winery: Notes of blackberry, licorice, Asian spice, citrus rind, boysenberry and mineral waft from this zingy, lively vintage of Sadie’s vineyard! The palate is quite yummy and juicy with notes of raspberry, root beer, spices, plum, charcoal, redwood bark and blueberry muffins. This Pinot is beautifully balanced with super-fine-grained tannins, an intense, concentrated body and an extremely long, lingering savory finish.

Sadie’s Vineyard, named for the family’s first German Shepherd, sits in the beautiful Sebastopol Hills along the chilly Bodega Highway corridor. The site is planted to some of our favorite clones; Pommard and Dijon 115.

100% destemmed Pinot Noir, 5 day cold soak, native fermentation in open-top, fermenters – keeping clones separate. Two punch-downs per day. Inoculated with Chris Hansen -16 for malolactic fermentation. 100% French oak, 35% new. 17 months in barrel – just before bottling I chose the best blend of barrels which consisted of 67% UCD 23 and La Tache, 33% 777 and Old Vine. Produced: 68 cases

91 Points! The 2017 Pinot Noir Umino Vineyard, made using about 50% whole cluster and 25% new oak, is pale to medium ruby-purple and opens with notions of smoke and gunflint with tree bark, dried herbs, amaro, cola with a black fruit and blueberry-accented core. Light to medium-bodied, it has good concentration of herbal and spiced fruits, with fine chalky tannins and juicy acidity, finishing long and spicy. - Erin Brooks, robertparker.com

The 2017 Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard is slightly deeper colored (it's still translucent) and offers a gorgeous nose of ripe redcurrants, cherries, spring flowers, sappy forest floor, and ample spice nuances. With medium to full body, beautiful depth of fruit, and a seamless texture, it's another stunning Pinot Noir from this team that I'd be happy to have in the cellar. - Jeb Dunnuck
