We’ve said it all before, but it bears repeating,
Jean-Marc Lafage is the BOMB.
Funny enough, one of the reps for his wines recently came back from a trip there and reported he was literally blown away by the operation, acres and acres of old vines, complete state-of-the-art winery, and the know-how to use technology to produce compelling, fruit-driven wines that still speak of their origins. It was obvious Lafage was putting back in (almost) every dollar he’s making so that his wines can be even better.
Our kind of guy, and our kind of wines!
It should come as no surprise that one of the friendliest, sunniest vintages in France in the last decade could combine with Lafage’s vineyards and know-how to create an absolute blockbuster wine.
The latest Lafage is one of his greatest, the Lafage Tessellae GSM Old Vines 2015 pulls no punches.
It is, as Jeb Dunnuck writes, “An incredible value …which is 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre from 70-year-old vines and brought up all in concrete tank.”
He goes on, “A ripe, expansive, full-bodied and undeniably sexy red that has beautiful notes of kirsch liqueur, blueberries, pepper and violets, it has ripe and present tannin, straight up fabulous purity and a great finish. This is another one of those wines where you just have to tell yourself you spent more than you actually did. The wine really is this good. 93 points.”
