94 Points! Spicy from the first tilt of the glass, the 2022 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is impossible to ignore as a pleasant smoky reduction blows off to reveal dried sage, wild strawberries, stone dust and violet pastille. This is pleasantly ripe in style, with a solid core of salty minerals to balance. Crisp wild berry fruits flow across the palate with ease. Blood orange notes combine with a tactile concentration as the 2022 tapers off with sweet tannins that frame the experience nicely. Without a doubt, the 2022 is one of the top Cerasuolos of the year, displaying remarkable complexity and refinement. - Eric Guido, Vinous Media

94 Points! Youthfully intense, the 2022 Chardonnay burst from the glass with flinty stone and dusty dried herbs, complicating green apples and hints of incense. This is round and surprisingly supple yet complex, with brisk acidity and citrus-laced pit fruits that take on a more tactile feel as crunchy minerals settle in toward the close. A lemony concentration lingers over a gentle tug of fine tannin as a note of sage resonates. In a word—stunning. - Eric Guido, Vinous Media

96 Points! The aromas of dried flowers and peaches are very cool and delicate. In fact they are only just beginning to unfurl. Super-focused and salty on the very concentrated, medium-bodied palate. Barely off dry, also thanks to the gigantic minerality that powers the elegant steamroller that is the finish. Sustainable. Drinkable now, but best from 2027. - JamesSuckling.com

98 Points! This is an incredible Etna white with the depth and intensity of a grand cru Burgundy, showing sliced cooked apples, cream, flint, oyster shells and spices. Full-bodied and layered with super length and finish. Weightless and true. A triumph. A pure carricante grown at 700 meters. Drink now or hold. - JamesSuckling.com

94 Points! The most mineral-driven of these new releases from Maugeri is the 2023 Etna Bianco Superiore Contrada Praino Frontemare. This is a young winery with enormous promise ahead of it. Grapes for this 3,300-bottle release come from a vineyard site on the east side of the volcano that faces the sea and has steep stone terraces on sandy, mineral-rich soils and yellowish clay. The wine spends eight months on the fine lees (with no malolactic fermentation and no bâtonnage). The result offers salty flavors folded into white pomelo fruit and unripe peach. This beautiful wine is considerably more angular and firm in character. - Monica Larner, robertparker.com

97 Points! This youthful Mosel riesling has an extraordinary depth of fresh apricot character on the very concentrated, medium-bodied palate. Restrained succulence in the Spatlese context, but there’s nothing restrained about the wine’s mineral energy and the drive in the extremely long finish. And if you pay close attention, you will find a wealth of mineral, herbal and spicy nuances. Reminds me of the great 1990 vintage of this wine. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. - JamesSuckling.com

94 Points! The 2023 Riesling Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Spätlese, made with just 10% botrytized fruit, opens with a touch of mango and plunges into vivid peach compote sweetness. Pink grapefruit peel counters and intensifies it. Simply gorgeous, with absolute lightness. A dream. - Anne krehbiel MW, Vinous Media

97 Points! A hidden gem of a wine that doesn't get the recognition it deserves, the 2022 Château Couhins Blanc is 93% Sauvignon Blanc and 7% Sauvignon Gris brought up in 18% new barrels, with the balance in used oak and tank. Bright citrus, honeyed lime, mint, sappy flowers, and chalky minerality all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, with gorgeously clean acidity and a great finish. Savvy readers should snatch up this ripe, voluptuous, sensationally layered, textured, complex white. It's always hard to predict how these concentrated dry whites will age, yet this should benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it still drinking beautifully at age 20. - Jeb Dunnuck

94 Points! Clear, pure and mineral with sour cream, white fruit and a touch of gooseberries. Medium-bodied on the palate, this has fresh medium acidity. Dissolved yet grainy in texture with a lengthy finish. Drink now. - Zekun Shuai, James Suckling

94 Points! The 2022 Couhins Blanc is superb, especially in the way it balances its brisk, saline character with notable mid-palate depth. White flowers, citrus peel, white pepper, sage and mint are all beautifully delineated. Intensely saline, mineral undertones support the persistent finish. This is commendable. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Alta Alella (Cava) VRIACC ICL 2019

    $24.98
    Quickview

The experimental yet profound Alta Alella (Cava) VRIACC ICL 2019 probably turned out shockingly better than anyone within this program had anticipated. It is a beautiful wine, organically grown (of course) and produced with the ancestral method in bottle for the second fermentation with no added sulfites. It basks in its complete lack of artifice, a clean, pure, intensely flavored result with soaring aromatics of citrus and white flowers, a fresh yet quietly concentrated palate and a length of finish that we only see from the best cava wines. It’s cava, but it isn’t, y’know what I mean? It’s something new and wonderful, and a joy to drink. Not only that, it’s a sign of GREAT things to come as these intrepid wineries, scientists and vine experts work together to make sure there are more and even more beautiful wines coming down the pike over the next few decades.

97 Points! Some people say that Riesling Kabinett must be sleek and very acidic, but this wine shows why this is narrow-minded. Fabulous nose of white flowers, ripe pear and white peach, then on the seriously concentrated palate this is so succulent and so precise you don’t want to think about anything else! Almost perfect balance at the long super-silky finish. From 60-year-old vines. Drink or hold. - JamesSuckling.com

    Botani Sparkling Muscat 2023

    $19.98

This bottling is made up of 100% Muscat of Alexandria from multiple old mountainside vineyards located in the Valley of the Lagares, Almáchar, of the Málaga DO where the inclinations are up to 70°.

The result is pure liquid joy, floral, bright, vivid, sparkling (duh), with fresh tropical fruit aromatics and a shocking opulence on the palate balanced by bright acidity. Fruity but not blatantly sweet, rather refreshing actually, the alcohol here is a moderate 10.8%, giving it a more serious air than its Asti brethren, more like a gorgeous Clairette de Die for all you French wine nerds.

99 Points! Welcome to the Bladerunner of Nahe riesling Spatlese. This is also extremely fine and complex, with a cornucopia of stone fruit, exotic fruit and spices. Radical stony minerality and racy acidity, yet with a feather-light mouthfeel on the barely medium-bodied palate. Then you wonder if the wine will ever leave you, so long is the almost endless farewell. Drink or hold. - JamesSuckling.com

97 Points! The 2023 Riesling Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Spätlese, grown on shale, has equal notions of moss and lemon. More air makes this smell simply of wet stone. The palate carries gentle sweetness but is absolutely precise and slender. Citrus frames everything with the clearest precision. Everything is serene, zesty, tender, yet so very serious. The 2023 is glorious in its lightness and disarming in its elegance. - Anne Krehbiel MW, Vinous Media

94 Points! The 2022 Les Inseparables is based on 43% Grenache Blanc, 30% Roussanne, and the rest Viognier, from vineyards throughout California. Its medium gold hue is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, yet richer wine from Cohn that has a gorgeous nose of ripe lemons, honeysuckle, toast, and white flowers. It brings some classic Cohn richness, but this stays pretty and elegant, with a terrific sense of freshness. It's going to shine on the dinner table for 2-3 years. - Jeb Dunnuck

94 Points! A flinty, herbaceous aroma leads to nicely layered flavors of citrus, ginger and limestone in this complex, subtle and fascinating wine. Nervy acidity braces the ample herb and fruit flavors for an especially energized mouthfeel. - Wine Enthusiast

Winemaker Notes: The 2023 vintage was long and temperate, and at times, blissfully cool. The resulting wine has a great balance of richness and texture and a very well-delineated backbone of vibrant acidity. Aromatics and flavors of lemon, mandarin, Asian pear, and white peach with fresh, floral notes of cassis bud and lime. Very long and mouth-wateringly juicy.
