Aloxe Corton

Designated a Grand Cru since 1937, this wine was already well-known in the 15th century when the King of France added Corton wines to his personal cellars. Upon the death of Charles le Téméraire, the final duke of Burgundy, this parcel of vines passed into the hands of the royal winemakers and therefore became Corton "Clos du Roi" (plot (of land) of the king). With a perfect easterly exposure on the hill of Corton, the Latour vines are worked in the traditional way. Harsh pruning permits later harvests and also insures that a good level of ripeness and richness is achieved in the grapes. This wine has fantastic ageing capacity.

91-93 Points! The 2016 Corton Grand Cru comes from red clay soils that are just 80 centimeters deep before you hit the limestone bedrock. It has a finely tuned bouquet with cranberry, raspberry preserve and crushed strawberry scents, crushed roses developing with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, brisk and tensile from start to finish and then pulling back so as not to overdo the finish. This is a case of less is more in a wine and it is likely to surpass the 2015 Corton. - Neal Martin, robertparker.com

Le Rognet is one of the top parcels in Corton, surrounded by the vineyards also farmed by Domaine de la Romanee Conti (Bressandes and Renardes) and a host of others.

90-93 Points! from a .31 ha holding of 60+ year old vines. Moderate wood can be found on the ripe aromas of mostly plum and black currant with background hints of earth and the sauvage. There is again very good volume and solid concentration to the tautly muscular larger-scaled flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the youthfully austere, compact and firm finale. - Allen Meadows, Burghound #89

92-94 Points! The 2020 Corton Grèves Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) wafts from the glass with scents of smoky plums, petals, dark chocolate and loamy soil. From the importer: Though in his late 20s, Jean-Baptiste Boudier is no novice. Having already racked up an impressive list of internship experiences across France and beyond, his diplomas in viticulture and enology include a BTS at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune, a License Science de la Vigne in Dijon, and a Dîplome Nationale en Oenologie in Bordeaux. His first apprenticeship was with his second cousin, Nicolas Rossignol, in the Côte de Beaune, followed by stints in Saint Emilion, New Zealand (Georges Michel), Châteauneuf du Pape (Vieux Télégraphe), Gevrey-Chambertin (Marchand Frères), Roussillon (Domaine Gauby), and Pessac (Haut Brion). To describe him as smart, focused, and ambitious would clearly be an understatement.
