94 Points! A very distinctive Adeliede Hills chardonnay with a fascinating interplay of leesy and mature candied-citrus aromas. Impressive structure, concentration and excellent textural complexity on the palate. Nice lemon-zest freshness at the finish, although the acidity is moderate. Minimal sulphites added. 96 Points! I love the bright nose of lime zest and ripe star fruit. Very focused, medium-bodied palate, but with a silky texture, this is a serious and sophisticated chardonnay. Plenty of stony minerality, plus nutty and licorice character at the very long, cool finish. Minimal sulphites added. Drink or hold. - JamesSuckling.com

95 Points! You know, when you drink the Freedom 1843, I think you want the concentration and intensity dialed up to 11. They're very old vines. Well, good news: It is. This 2019 The Freedom 1843 Shiraz is luscious and plush but not overdone; the intensity has been pushed right out and accelerated but harnessed at the same time. The wine is complete, pleasurable and harmonious. Excellent. Very big, but excellent. - Erin Larkin, robertparker.com

95 Points Vinous! From the winery:The Loechel Eden Valley Shiraz is sourced from a single vineyard at the Southern tip of the Eden Valley township. It was planted half a century ago by the Loechel family to granitic loam, at 400 metres altitude.

The vineyard is planted on a steep Easterly aspect with high drainage and low yields, resulting in concentrated fruit and rich, complex wines. The vineyard is picked in three seperate components which are kept seperate throughout vinification. One third of the vineyard’s fruit is retained to produce the Loechel Shiraz which is determined at blending prior to bottling

95 Points! The 2018 Tappa Pass Shiraz blends fruit from Eden Valley and Barossa Valley, then ages it in 20% new French oak hogsheads, with the balance aged in used oak. Vanilla notes and dried spices add extra complexity to the dark berry fruit on the nose, while this creamy, full-bodied wine expands on the palate, delivering waves of lush blueberry and blackberry fruit balanced by savory overtones of tapenade and grilled beef. Those elements all come to a harmonious crescendo on the long, velvety finish. This is the sort of Barossa wine that's thrilling to drink in its exuberant youth but will still be going strong a decade or more hence. - Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com

92 Points! The 1999 Springflat Shiraz has dense, opaque purple color, a real intense, minty, creme de cassis nose, with some spicy new oak. The wine is certainly not shy at 15.3% alcohol, but the power is well-harnessed, and the wine is primarily a big, full-bodied, thick, juicy fruit bomb with plenty of texture, purity, and length. It should drink well for 7-8 years, perhaps longer. - Robert Parker, robertparker.com June 2001

99 Points! This is a great edition of this standard bearer for elegant Yarra Valley claret. The nose is detailed and fresh with a central theme of red and dark berries, cedar, cocoa powder, violet-like florals and light leafy notes. The palate has such expressiveness with impressively vibrant red cherries, plums and berries, all in unison with faultlessly fine, long and seamless tannins. This is delicious now and will age so well. The greatest Quintet ever? Certainly in my lifetime! Drink or hold. - JamesSuckling.com

97 Points! There’s striking freshness of lemon and yellow grapefruit here with a chalky, stony, flinty edge. The fresh fruit carries subtly spicy oak nicely. There are grapefruit and fresh yellow-peach flavors in abundance. This carries energetic, acidity-fueled drive and delivers impressive balance, as well as length. So long and juicy. Drink or hold. - JamesSuckling.com

From the winery: A further extension into the fresh young red space from our Joven starting point, Stella takes us to a whole new level. As our Cinsault plantings bear fruit it is a pleasure to be exploring the potential of this variety to counter the effects of climate change. Blending with some lovely whole bunch fermented Shiraz has brought a roundness and darker fruit aspect without diminishing the vibrancy of the wine. There is a buzz around the concept of juiciness or wine that makes you salivate that is so very now and represents the current contribution to the wine lexicon that this wine fully encapsulates. A wine of utmost intensity, rewarding careful cellaring. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. Alan’s Cabernet Pressings is made in exactly the same way as Alan’s Cabernet, but it is the very last drops of wine to be squeezed from the skins in the basket press. This process often takes all night. Our press gently squeezes the skins under a lower pressure. The wine dribbles and drips into a bucket which is then poured into a heavy toasted French oak barrel made of oak from the Troncais forest. The resulting wine is liquid gold, and is either bottled on its own, or is the driving force behind Duck Muck. Learn More

100 Points! Much anticipated vintage for Grange and it is a powerhouse of concentration and complexity. Aromas of orange and lemon peel to start, then graphite, blackberries, plum paste, black cherries, boundless sweet oak spice, fresh cedar, tar, mahogany, roasted coffee and chocolate - the list goes on. Such complexity. Classic Grange, offering such deep, dark intensity. The palate has immense richness and depth with a super succulent and very long, fleshy, deeply weighted array of dense, velvet-wrapped tannins that run so long. The fruit flavors sit in the blackberry, blood-plum and blueberry zone with succulent, long and assertive structure, carrying through in an utterly seamless mode. The finish is tightly wrenched, in spectacularly powerful style, locking this wine in for a very long haul. Best from 2030. - JamesSuckling.com Learn More

96 Points! The hugely extracted, massive 1999 Shiraz Reserve tips the scales at 15.2% alcohol. From Shiraz vines that average 35-40 years of age, it was aged in a combination of small and large oak barrels as well as puncheons. There are 580 cases of this behemoth. An opaque blue/purple color and a knockout nose of blackberry liqueur intermixed with spice box, pepper, asphalt, and licorice soar from the glass. Opulent and viscous, with tremendous palate presence, beautifully integrated acidity, tannin, and alcohol, this superb, larger-than-life wine is a tour de force for a lighter weight vintage such as 1999. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020. - Robert Parker, June 2001 Learn More

94 Points! The 2001 Eclipse (65% Grenache and 35% Shiraz from 56-65 year old vines) is still closed aromatically, but with coaxing reveals potentially fabulous quality. An opaque purple color is followed by aromas of charcoal, smoke, blackberries, and sweet cherries. This full-bodied, rich, beautifully delineated effort is extraordinarily pure as well as incredibly persistent on the palate (close to one minute). Aged in a combination of new and old large American oak hogsheads for 18 months and bottled unfiltered, it appears to have tremendous up-side potential, although I suspect many readers will not be able to defer their gratification ... and why should they? Drink it over the next decade. - Robert Parker, August 2003 Learn More
