  1. Voces Petite Sirah Napa Valley 2013

Voces Petite Sirah Napa Valley 2013

Special Price $19.98 Regular Price $50.00
    Quickview

100% Petite Sirah from Frediani Vineyards in Calistoga. Aged in French Oak Barrels for 18 months. Expect both polish and power. Sweet toasty notes, plush, violets, red licorice,  with fresh vibrant flavors of raspberry, blueberry and plum pie at the core.

    From the winery:

The Frediani family has been growing grapes in Napa Valley since the 1898, and these particular vines were planted by the Frediani family in the 1935. Jim Frediani is a third-generation Italian grower, from a family line of one of Napa's first wine farming families. His expertise in viticulture make the Voces Cellars grapes the cornerstone of our 100% varietal wines.

The Frediani Vineyard is truly a trove of old vines and long-forgotten Napa Valley varietals. We have known the family since 2001 and acquired some of the best fruit in the valley.

In the middle of Napa Valley, the Frediani vines sit in rocky gravel and bale clay loam soil. With intense hot days and chilly nights, the variance in temperature produces lush fruit. The unique climate and aged Frediani vines is the reason Voces Cellars wines are never blended with any other valley fruit.

Sandhi Chardonnay Patterson Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills 2023

Special Price $29.98 Regular Price $75.00

    From the winery:

This is classic Patterson: arguably the most Chablisienne of our bottlings, instant with pronounced stone, white flower and fruit aromas reminiscent of Fuji apple and Camice pear, quick on its feet with a crisp attack but expansive and deep on the palate. The combination of freshness and body really is something else. With more time in the glass, a touch of brown butter and oak seep in, hardly distracting from the other elements of the wine but instead adding to them a subtle polish. This 2023, vintage number six for Patterson, may be its best yet.

10 months aging in larger oak puncheons, 6 months in tank, 294 cases produced.

    From the winery:

This wine is 100% Chardonnay, and is the new version of what was our Bien Nacido Chardonnay.  Over the last 10 years the Bien Nacido Vineyard has been shrinking due to virus and economic considerations, and a couple of the blocks that we used to get from are now sadly gone.  Luckily, Block 18, which is directly behind the winery, has remained healthy, productive and yields high quality grapes.  This is the first year that we have worked with the Maria Vista Vineyard.  It is a beautifully farmed vineyard about 5 miles west of Bien Nacido, so slightly cooler site, and sits directly across the road from Presqu’ile Vineyard and Winery.

The grapes for this wine were harvested in four separate picks between September 10th and September 24th, at sugars ranging from 21.7 to 24.0° brix, all with great acidity.  Each lot was whole cluster pressed, chilled overnight in tank, and transferred to barrel the next day.  For Chardonnay, we use exclusively Francois Freres French oak Burgundy barrels, of which about 25% were new, 25% were two year old, and the rest neutral.  It went through complete malo in the barrel and was aged on the lees for 9 months.

This is classic Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay, with aromas of apples, pears, citrus and a nice dollop of toasty French oak.  The Maria Vista component, coming from a cooler climate gives the wine a nice bit of minerality as well.

97 Points! Beringer's Private Reserve in the 2021 vintage combines 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, and 2% Malbec. It was aged 18 months in 65% new French oak. It's a very stylish wine with an excellent balance between its powerful, fine-grained tannins and plump, juicy, black-toned fruits. The bouquet is lovely, too, revealing a wealth of vintage-specific savoury potpourri character in its sagebrush, dried rose petal, and coriander atop candied red berry fruits and fragrant ironstone minerality. Full-bodied, with a deep core of succulent blackberry fruit that is downright silky. Between the dazzling fruit character and perfectly integrated tannin, the Private Reserve has a seamless quality, making it so approachable now but well-endowed with the structure to age gracefully. - Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter Magazine

97 Points! The 2021 Private Reserve is the most refined of the 2021s from Beringer. The aromatics alone are so alluring. There's 12% Cabernet Franc in the blend this year, and that comes through loud and clear. Crushed flowers, espresso, mint, licorice and red/purplish fruit all grace this silky, super-polished offering. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

97 Points! So much dark berry, dried berry, matchstick and iodine here. Plus intense aromas of black currants and black berries. So floral. Full-bodied with firm and compacted tannins that are super polished and balanced. Very long and linear. The tightness, focus and complexity harks back to the 1990s but the purity and transparency is today. September 2024 release. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 12% cabernet franc, 6% merlot, and 2% malbec. - JamesSuckling.com

Medium in body and beautifully layered, the 2023 graces the palate with lovely red/purplish-toned fruit lifted by soaring floral aromatics. Time in the glass releases hints of lavender, cinnamon and new leather. Fine-grained tannins round things out in style. Lavender, rose petal and spice lend notable aromatic lift. The Oakville is pure sensuality. Hints of blood orange, cinnamon, cedar and new leather linger. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

From the winery: Our CRU Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced primarily from two Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the northeast corner of Oakville, Renteria 360 and Oakview Vineyards. A small amount of Petit Verdot from a nearby Rutherford vineyard and a touch of Malbec from a high elevation Mt. Veeder vineyard are carefully layered in for a delicious, well-rounded and beautifully balanced wine that expresses the blue fruit profile, nuance and character of the Oakville appellation. Each vineyard plays a role in this uniquely focused CRU bottling, contributing to the juicy approachability and great structure that our CRU Cabernet Sauvignons are known for. 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec.

Volcanic clay soils, 400 feet of elevation, and cool nights produce Cabernet of serious depth and refinement. For nearly two decades the Siegert family quietly sold their hand-harvested grapes to top Napa and Sonoma producers before launching their own estate label. Helle's Harvest 2018, aged 18 months in barrel, hit the market right as COVID shut everything down. Their loss, your gain. Classic Alexander Valley Cab with Bordeaux-meets-California swagger, fruit-forward, refined, with sneaky power and years ahead of it. Originally $52 at the winery. Yours today for $24.98. 97 Points! A dazzling wine, the 2018 Pinot Noir Mt. Carmel Vineyard possesses magnificent richness to match its statuesque personality. The flavors are rich, bold and ample, and yet the 2018 retains so much nuance and vibrancy. Inky red/purplish fruit, lavender, graphite and spice build into the huge, resonant finish. What a wine. The 2018 was done with 6% whole clusters and was aged in a combination of one and two-year-old barrels. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

96 Points! More mulberry, candied violets, orange blossom, and incense notes emerge from the 2018 Pinot Noir Mount Carmel Vineyard, a rich, concentrated, incredibly impressive effort from Matt Dees. Medium to full-bodied, and balanced, with ample tannins and acidity, it's certainly brilliant now, given its purity and elegance, yet a solid 3-4 years of bottle age will put it in its sweet spot. - Jeb Dunnuck
