98 Points!  The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Sourced from pristine stock direct from the chateau (with security tag!), these half bottles from Calon Segur's property next door are truly in a perfect spot for drinking right now. Fresh, bright, packed with fruit, tannins resolved, this half bottle did not last more than a few moments after we opened it for the team. Cork ripped, wine poured, bottle gone. Can't tell you what kind of deal this is for $20 a half....wow.

92 Points! Amber in appearance, the nose gives aromas of orange confit, Earl Grey tea and mushroom consommé. The palate is medium-bodied with notes of apple pie, sandalwood and molasses. Classic and delicious. Drink or hold. - JamesSuckling.com

Full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it combines formidable depth with perfectly judged control, built around a fleshy core of fruit, framed by lively acidity and a crystalline texture and culminating in an endless, refined and ethereal finish. 100 Points! Power, freshness, depth — after the extremes of 2021 and 2022, this walks the line between the two, exceptional. Mandarin, quince, mirabelle plums, white truffle, fresh fruit and confit fruit, a vibration of slate and steel, opulent but slices closed on the finish. The botrytis came early and quickly in 2023. 100 Points! Perfect aromas carry through to every milliliter of this wine, showing intense orange peel, honey, butterscotch, saffron, smoke and peat, with hints of coffee and dried apples. Full-bodied but weightless and silky, with an excellent balance of fruit, sweetness and spices. Some peanut brittle, dried oranges and lemons at the end. I can’t get over how wonderful this is now, but it can age forever. 154 g/L residual sugar. Drink or hold. - James Suckling

100 Points! The 2023 Suduiraut is a model of modern Sauternes. Orange peel, burnt sugar, crème-brûlée, tangerine peel, and wild flowers inform a Sauternes of total finesse and silkiness. Yields were a measly 12 hectoliters per hectare. The 150 grams of residual sugar are not especially evident. Everything about the 2023 is perfectly judged. From ungrafted vines planted in the late 1990s that were picked at 125° to 130° Oechsle and based on 50% botrytis, the 2023 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese (Long Gold Capsule) opens with a very clear and aromatic passion fruit aroma intertwined with herbal notes on the deep, saline and complex, elegant and refined nose. On the palate, this is an Auslese full of vibrant finesse, and it's provided with laser-sharp acidity and mineral tension but most of all this delicate and lush fruit texture. It's irresistible in its crystalline salinity. 500 liters were made. This has 145 grams per liter of residual sugar, 11 grams per liter of total acidity and 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Scents of orange peel, hazelnut, dried flowers, chamomile and lightly burnt sugar all grace this exquisite Vin Santo from Fèlsina. The 2018 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a rock star of a wine and is based on a unique blend of 37% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 29% Merlot that was brought up in 80% new French oak. Offering a deep ruby/purple color as well as a thrilling bouquet of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, chocolate, violets, damp earth, and truffle, it hits the palate with a full-bodied yet almost understated, building style that carries ripe, supple tannins, gorgeous amounts of smoky black fruits, and an endearing, layered, multi-dimensional texture that keeps you coming back to the glass. A dead ringer for a great vintage of Haut-Brion, it is far from unapproachable today yet needs 7-8 years of bottle age for the fireworks to develop and will have 50-years or more of longevity! 97 Points! A smoking good dessert wine, the 2014 Billet Doux offers stunning notes of ripe quince, honeyed peach, toasted bread, and exotic flowers. It brings loads of richness and depth, yet always has a sense of purity and elegance, as well as lightness on the palate. It’s another gorgeous sweet wine from Morlet that will stand up to some of the great Sauternes out there. - Jeb Dunnuck
