Armand Heitz Échezeaux Grand Cru 2021 at $599.98 is one of the most intelligent ways to buy into Grand Cru Burgundy right now. In a market where top Échezeaux bottlings routinely push well into four figures, this sits under $600 while delivering serious terroir, thoughtful regenerative farming, and a producer on the rise rather than one trading on hype. The 2021 vintage was frost-reduced and cooler, producing lower yields and more classical, red-fruited, finely structured wines with vibrant acidity and long aging potential. For collectors who value transparency, balance, and site expression over power and speculation, this is a savvy, allocation-worthy Burgundy that feels both disciplined and forward-thinking.

From Armand: My family owned and traded grand crus on the Cote de Nuit until the 1960s. It is therefore with great pride that I manage to pay homage to my ancestors by working these cuvées. The plots of this mythical grand cru are located between Clos Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée. At the time, they belonged to the Abbey of Cîteaux. With a very warm and very early vintage, I was quite worried about the style of the wines. With a nice mastery of the whole harvest, the wine reassures me completely. Incredibly dense, fresh and complex. This grand cru holds its own.

90-92 Points! The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chalandins is matured with just under 50% whole cluster and 20% new oak. It has a well-defined bouquet of brambly red fruit, rose petal and light crushed rock aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a rounded texture and a harmonious, silky-smooth finish. 94-96 Points! Broader and more flamboyant than the Chapelle-Chambertin, the 2020 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru bursts with aromas of plums, wild berries, exotic spices, orange rind, peonies and smoked meats. 94-96 Points! Tremblay's 2021 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru is a hauntingly floral, ethereal wine, wafting from the glass with scents of sweet plums and berries mingled with exotic spices, orange zest and vine smoke. Full-bodied, broad and enveloping, it's deep and seamless, with a cool core of fruit, melting tannins and a long, floral finish. - William Kelley, robertparker.com

92+ Points! There are two barrels of Beaumonts in the cellars this year, one of which was new. This is a terrific wine in the making and will be worth a special search to locate in the market. The bouquet is deep, pure and very classy, as it offers up a fine mélange of dark berries, plums, a touch of venison, woodsmoke, fresh herbs, espresso and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish and beautifully focused, with a fine core of fruit, tangy acids, moderate tannins and outstanding length and grip on the pure and soil-driven finish. What isn't in a name? It doesn't say it on the label but Duband’s Vosne-Romanée comes from 90% “Les Barreaux” (medium-steep slope above Richebourg and Cros Parantoux; 300-340m; p.1950s) and 10% “Aux Ormes (gentle slope east of village center; 235m; p.1990).

Amazignly rare due to frost, only bottled in Magnum in 2016...

Dark red-ruby. The brooding, medicinal scents of black cherry and licorice suggest an extremely concentrated wine. At once sweeter and even more tannic than the Echézeaux, conveying a powerful impression of extract but also uncanny cut to its dark fruit and saline mineral flavors. Finishes with explosive length. The impression of chewiness and solidity verges on extreme, and this wine is likely to need a minimum of a decade of bottle aging. 97 Points! Violets, roses, raspberries, and red cherries emanate from the 2003 Richebourg. Full-bodied, deep, and hugely concentrated, it is muscular, firm and displays the firmest structure of the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti’s 2003s. Soy sauce, tar, chocolate, and dark fruits are found in its focused, audacious personality. Explosive fruit, staggering complexity and profoundly long, spicy, velvety flavors, this wine clearly demonstrates, without fear of contradiction, that Echézeaux can produce wines worthy of grand cru stature.
