One of Barolo's oldest houses
The Oddero family has farmed in La Morra since the 1700s and bottled its first Barolo under its own name in 1878 — at a time when nearly all Piedmontese wine left the cellar in bulk. The estate is run today by the sixth and seventh generations, with Isabella and Pietro Oddero at the helm.
Across roughly 35 hectares, Oddero holds parcels in a run of crus most producers would be glad to own one of: Villero and Rocche di Castiglione in Castiglione Falletto, Bussia in Monforte d'Alba, Vignarionda in Serralunga d'Alba, and Brunate in their home commune of La Morra. The family completed conversion to certified organic farming in 2017.
The winemaking has never chased fashion. Long macerations of roughly 20–25 days, then thirty to forty months in large neutral botti — no small-barrel makeup, nothing to hide the site. It is the style that rewards exactly what these bottles have had: time.
Villero
Castiglione FallettoCalcareous marl on a south-facing amphitheatre. The most structured of the Castiglione crus and historically the source of Barolo's most celebrated Riservas.
Rocche di Castiglione
Castiglione FallettoLighter, sandier soils on a steep exposed ridge. Gives the perfumed, fine-boned side of Nebbiolo — aromatic lift and silken tannin.
Bussia · Vigna Mondoca
Monforte d'AlbaA named parcel in Bussia Soprana. Monforte's deeper, denser register — broad-shouldered wine built for the long haul.
Vignarionda
Serralunga d'AlbaIron-rich Serralunga soils and the estate's most age-worthy site. Released only as Riserva, and only in tiny quantity.
Brunate
La MorraThe home commune. Brunate is La Morra's grand cru — generous and floral up front, with far more grip underneath than its perfume suggests.
A 2008–2009–2010 Villero vertical is on the table while stock holds. Allocations are first come, first served.
