The 2019 La Cuvee sparkling wine was produced with a blend of 55% Xarel.lo, 35% Macabeo and 10% Parellada from 12 growers that work a total of 461 hectares of biodynamic vineyards certified by Demeter. Fifteen percent of the wine spent one year in 300-liter oak barrels and then refermented and aged with the lees in bottle for 40 months and is sold with five grams of residual sugar. 2019 reminded them of 2013 and 2009, possibly the last classical vintage in the zone in recent times. 92 Points! The excellent 2019 Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvée Fleuron, sourced from eight lieux-dits in Cramant, Chouilly and Cuis, was disgorged in October 2023 with five grams per liter dosage. Soaring from the glass with aromas of green apple, lemon zest, elderflower and toasted bread, it is full-bodied, textural and intense, supported by bright acids and chalky extract that provide a sensation of freshness. The NV Champagne Premiere Cuvée Extra Brut Rosé has a salmon/pink hue and jumps from the glass with a floral perfume in its aromas of salted grapefruit, rose water, strawberries, and green melon. Compact and medium-bodied, it offers a good deal of intensity and power through the palate, with a spritely mousse and a citrus-driven, mouthwatering finish. 96 Points! A structured and creamy-textured Jacquesson NV with a very fine-bubble texture and lovely polish. It's medium- to full-bodied with length and sophistication, in a friendly and approachable way. Yet there is something that tells you it's going to deliver more with aging. More pinot in the blend than in other years, because the chardonnay was affected by frost, and it is impressive. Chewy at the end with phenolic tension and a slight bitterness, though in a good way. 2019 base. Three years on the yeast. Dosage 1.5g/L. Drink or hold. - JamesSuckling.com

93 Points! The NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 747 (2019 base) marries textural richness with notable vibrancy. Lemon confit, mint, white pepper, tangerine peel and graphite lend energy throughout. All the elements are very nicely balanced. I especially admire the textural depth here. Spring frost was particularly damaging to the Chardonnay, so the blend is distinctly Pinot-leaning in this release. Dosage is 1.5 grams per liter. 97 Points! Like a stallion out of the gate, this shows an initial explosion of power, in the form of mouthwatering flavors and fine texture, before quickly settling into an elegant gait. The racy acidity is seamlessly knit, buoying the lacy mousse and flavors of cassis, toasted brioche and tangerine, with accents of candied ginger, hazelnut and fleur de sel lingering on the long, creamy finish. The R. Renaudin Brut Réserve Non-Vintage spent an amazing 14 years en tirage in their cold cellar near Epernay before recent disgorgement. Incredible! The base wine for this 100% Chardonnay cuvee was from the 2010 vintage. Damn. And, of course, the usual 20% of the cuvee is reserve wine from an even older stocks. Crazy. The house does no malolactic fermentation so the wines have a naturally bright, vivid, green apple character that meshes wonderfully with the brioche-y notes from the extnded time aging in bottle prior to disgorgement. 98 Points! Originally a part of the legendary Piper-Heidsieck Champagne house, Rare is moving their Champagne Millésime to a new brand and want it to stand alone. (Think Delamotte and Salon.) The 13th vintage for this cuvée, the 2013 Champagne Millésime is a blend is 70% Chardonnay with the rest Pinot Noir, with the majority of the blend coming from the Montagne de Reims Grand Cru and Premier Cru. A bright yellow hue, its aromatics are exquisite and well-balanced, with fresh notes of key lime, candied apple, fresh croissant dough, fresh pineapple, and honeysuckle. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with a rounded and supple texture and a pillowy mousse. It’s long on the palate and has a silky personality as well as a long, pristine finish. It has fantastic balance of decadence and freshness, and I could drink this all day. It’s going to have a long drinking window. Drink 2024-2044 and beyond.
