Full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it combines formidable depth with perfectly judged control, built around a fleshy core of fruit, framed by lively acidity and a crystalline texture and culminating in an endless, refined and ethereal finish. 100 Points! Power, freshness, depth — after the extremes of 2021 and 2022, this walks the line between the two, exceptional. Mandarin, quince, mirabelle plums, white truffle, fresh fruit and confit fruit, a vibration of slate and steel, opulent but slices closed on the finish. The botrytis came early and quickly in 2023. 100 Points! Perfect aromas carry through to every milliliter of this wine, showing intense orange peel, honey, butterscotch, saffron, smoke and peat, with hints of coffee and dried apples. Full-bodied but weightless and silky, with an excellent balance of fruit, sweetness and spices. Some peanut brittle, dried oranges and lemons at the end. I can’t get over how wonderful this is now, but it can age forever. 154 g/L residual sugar. Drink or hold. - James Suckling

From ungrafted vines planted in the late 1990s that were picked at 125° to 130° Oechsle and based on 50% botrytis, the 2023 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese (Long Gold Capsule) opens with a very clear and aromatic passion fruit aroma intertwined with herbal notes on the deep, saline and complex, elegant and refined nose. On the palate, this is an Auslese full of vibrant finesse, and it's provided with laser-sharp acidity and mineral tension but most of all this delicate and lush fruit texture. It's irresistible in its crystalline salinity. 500 liters were made. This has 145 grams per liter of residual sugar, 11 grams per liter of total acidity and 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. 96 Points! This has a rich and ripe dark-fruit nose with a wealth of stony attraction and a lighter, floral edge. The palate has a very rich core of deeply ripe, fleshy fruit, framed in cedary oak. Really impressive clarity and web-like tannins. Superb finish. Try from 2023. - JamesSuckling.com

94 Points! This incredibly beautiful estate was purchased by Peter Kwok, a Hong Kong-based financier, in 2012. The estate covers a tiny 6.5 hectares (some terraced) just down from Château Barde-Haut, and it remains one of the hidden gems in just about every vintage. The 2016 Château Tour Saint Christophe is another winner. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in 40% new French oak, this concentrated, structured 2016 is one for the cellar. It offers a deep ruby/purple color and a powerful array of black fruits, graphite, and earthy minerality as well as a hint of salinity and spring flowers. It has fine tannins (but plenty of them), beautiful balance, and a straight, focused texture, all pointing to the cellar being your friend. Hide bottles of 4-5 years and enjoy over the following 15-20. Tasted twice. - Jeb Dunnuck

97 Points! This is phenomenal with superb depth and texture. Full-bodied and very sweet, yet the bright acidity balances the wine out. Creamy mouthfeel with phenolic undertones. Great finish. This wine has a great future. Better in 2021, but already great. - James Suckling

Paolo Marolo founded his distillery in Alba, the heart of Italy’s most famous wine-producing area, 
in 1977. He had been a student, and then a professor of herbology at Alba’s famous Enology School 
and started distilling small batches of very fre sh pomace as a hobby. In 1991 he decided to produce 
grappa full time, always prioritizing quality; he works with pot stills heated using indirect heat (‘bain 
marie’) and fresh pomace. The Marolo family maintains strong relationships with wine producers to 
make sure that the pomace arrives straight from the press, and even deploy their own truck for pickups. 
All grappas are batch-distilled in small lots, in beautiful copper stills by master coppersmith Tullio Zadra.
Varietal character doesn’t usually survive distillation, except in the case of very aromatic white 
grapes like muscat, and this one leaps out of the glass. Some classic muscat aroma, with pear and a 
hint of orange blossom; round palate impression with lovely finishing perfume. Just the thing to convert 
someone who doesn’t think they like grappa.

Finely selected from the region of Luzhou, Sichuan Province, the red glutinous sorghum is fermented in the historical fermentation pits and blended to perfection. Before release, it is bottled in an exquisite Chinese clay bottle. Owing to the fact that the clay bottle is porous, the baijiu kept in the bottle can actually ‘breathe’. It is therefore rightly claimed as a ‘living baijiu’. With red glutinous sorghum grown specifically in Luzhou, Sichuan province as the ingredient, Luzhou Laojiao · Antique Edition (Zisha Daqu Baijiu) is brewed from old fermentation pits with hundreds of years of history. It was then bottled in a clay bottle after exquisite blending by our baijiu master. Tasting Notes: An aroma of toasted sesame oil and fermented soy. A rich and umami body with notes of nuts, dark chocolate, and sour cherry. White pepper on the finish.

The 2018 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a rock star of a wine and is based on a unique blend of 37% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 29% Merlot that was brought up in 80% new French oak. Offering a deep ruby/purple color as well as a thrilling bouquet of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, chocolate, violets, damp earth, and truffle, it hits the palate with a full-bodied yet almost understated, building style that carries ripe, supple tannins, gorgeous amounts of smoky black fruits, and an endearing, layered, multi-dimensional texture that keeps you coming back to the glass. A dead ringer for a great vintage of Haut-Brion, it is far from unapproachable today yet needs 7-8 years of bottle age for the fireworks to develop and will have 50-years or more of longevity! 97 Points! This amazing Chateauneuf-du-Pape squares the circle of southern richness and spring-like freshness in spite of coming from a very warm and dry vintage. The stony minerality, saltiness and dried flower character wind together to form a dynamic whole, driving this gracefully across the palate. 96 Points! Full, generous and broad. Acids are bright and vibrant, and there's a fine but dense weft of tannins through the wine. Great energy and salinity this year, this is particularly fine and balanced, with plenty of concentration and a long finish. All from La Crau and fermented in tronconic wood barrels. Élevage in foudre. Oldest Grenache bunches aren't destemmed. - Decanter Magazine

94 Points! This shows a lot of aromatic appeal, with dusty earth and singed incense notes covering a well of fresh cherry and red currant flavors. A gutsy, grippy style on the palate, with a cast iron spine bringing firm shape and underlying power. Slightly old-school, this still needs time to unfurl. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault.
