94 Points! A more modern-styled cuvée from 100% galets roulés terroir, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Barberini is based on 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre. It was partially destemmed, vinified in concrete, and aged 15 months in 60% new French oak, 20% foudre, and 20% concrete. It brings more intensity in its notes of bright blackberries, Provençal garrigue, spicy wood, and pepper. This beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, elegant 2023 has ripe, polished tannins, no hard edges, and a gorgeous finish. With 416 cases produced, it will benefit from just a few years of bottle age and keep for 10-15 years in cold cellars. - Jeb Dunnuck

‘Champs Perdrix’ touches premier cru vineyards to the north, and grand crus La Tâche and Romanée-Conti to the east. Soils echo the rockiness of La Tâche, with more sand. AGE OF VINES: 30-50 years WINEMAKING: Hand-harvested. Destemmed. Fermented on indigenous yeasts in tank. Aged in clay amphora and clay eggs, and older French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered.

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Trois Sources comes from a terroir similar to the Reserve and is based on 70% Grenache, 10% Cinsault, 5% each Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Counoise, and the rest a mix of varieties. Ripe blackberries, roasted garrigue, loamy soil, licorice, and a kiss of graphite all emerge on the nose, and this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, seamless mouthfeel, beautiful yet building tannins, and a great finish. It's slightly more open and expressive than the Les Hauts-Lieux, yet I suspect both of these cuvées will cruise for two decades. - Jeb Dunnuck

A picture-perfect example of the elegant complexity and aromatic intensity of the best of Vosne. Here the Vigots combine fruit from two plots, ‘La Colombière,’ near the heart of the village and planted in 1979/1980, and ‘La Croix Blanche,’ at the border with Nuits, planted in 1947/1948. (Know that Mugneret-Gibourg’s Vosne villages sources fruit from these same vineyards!) Silky, refined, sublime.

Demougeot’s Pommard has a good balance of characteristics drawn from two very different village parcels. A blend of unusual names, La Rue au Porc and En Boeuf, in English could be looselytranslated as Pork Street and In Beef—wines apparently good with food... La Rue au Porc was planted in 1948 and is composed of deep clay and limestone rock topsoil—the muscle and weight of  the wine. En Boeuf is in the Grande Combe, a somewhat narrow valley far to the west of the appellation on the north hill facing south on a steep slope of shallow rocky topsoil all closer to forests and in the direct path of colder winds from the countryside to the west, presenting almost a complete contrast to La Rue au Porc. Planted in 1979, the position of these vines balances the wine with mineral, tension, cut and lift.

The 2022 Tio Uco Vino de Comarca, crafted with 90% Tinta de Toro and 10% Garnacha sourced from Paramo de la Guarena, is bottled as Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon and was aged in 2500-liter foudres. It exhibits a purple hue. Its reductive nose, reminiscent of cherries, also features plums and light vanilla. Light and fairly lean, the taut and chalky palate leads to a compact, refreshing, juicy and lasting finish. - Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous Media

From a .54-hectare plot in Corgoloin below the forest line in a lieu-dit called La Montagne—vines were planted in the 1980s.

95 Points! The 2023 El Terroir is a village red from San Martín de Unx that was selected from six different vineyards that were harvested quite early, at the beginning of September. It fermented with full clusters, indigenous yeasts and a long maceration. It is slightly darker than La Dama, with more clout and some more tannins but all relative to La Dama, which is superlative, because outside that context, this would be super fragrant, elegant and subtle. It has container power, lots of energy and depth and a beautiful combination of wild berries, herbs and flowers. It has a fine-boned, medium-bodied palate and good balance. The palate is svelte and succulent, lined with taut acidity supported by a gentle creaminess. 91 Points! The 2021 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills Cuvée is bright and beautifully focused. Citrus, white flowers, slate and white pepper are all beautifully delineated throughout. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and layered, it's built around a multidimensional core of fruit framed by structuring yet well-integrated tannins, delivering a notably controlled expression of power and concluding with a long, perfumed, subtly ethereal finish. While still tightly knit at this stage, it possesses considerable depth and will require extended cellaring. It stands as one of the more impressive renditions of Haut-Brion in recent years."

"The 2025 Haut-Brion has a very pure and elegant bouquet with ebullient brambly red fruit, crushed stone, potpourri and touches of Earl Grey. Wonderful delineation and a little more refined than the 2020 or 2022. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, greater complexity than La Mission, more depth and minerality, finishing with a fresh, marine-tinged character that makes you want to come back. This year, the First Growth has put a bit of distance between itself and La Mission."

Gorgeous black cherries, graphite, scorched earth, and smoke all define the bouquet, and on the palate it's remarkably pure, with polished, serious tannins, and incredible length. Its purity, concentration, and overall sense of class are riveting."

"The 2025 Haut-Brion is quite the powerhouse. Black fruit, cloves, new leather, tobacco, chocolate and menthol open before a wave of huge tannins and incisive acids take over. Haut-Brion can be rather dark and somber. That is very much the case with the 2025, a wine that speaks with sepia-toned, baritone inflections. It also conveys more obvious ripeness than La Mission Haut-Brion at this stage."

Palenqueros Madrecuishe was produced in the village of Santa Maria La Pila at 1552 meters above sea level by fourth generation producer Don Valente Garcìa, alongside his grandson Semei, from cultivated Madrecuishe. Cooked in an oven pit and hand crushed with a wooden mallet, the agave is fermented in cypress and pine wood vats using the ambient yeast of the distillery before it is distilled on a 350 liter copper pot still powered by direct fire. Bottled at still strength of 48.9% with no additives.

Palenqueros is a project initiated by La Maison & Velier’s Luca Gargano and involves six producers from the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The initial series of 12 certified mezcals in 2019 was a collaboration project with Tradición Chagoya, which owns and operates other mezcal brands like Donaji and Los Cuerudos. The second series, released in 2024, featured 6 agave distillates and was solely a project of LM&V.

This wine comes from the following climats: En Songe, En Jouise, En Billard, En Dérée, Croix des Champs, Sylvie, La Justice, Charreux and two parcels of the clos surrounding their home. Average age of vines from these different parcels is around fifty-five years.

A selection from three older-vine plots in Vosne: ‘Aux Raviolles,’ ‘Au Dessus de la Rivere’ and ‘Aux Ormes,’ with a mix of clay and limestone soils, mostly east-facing. Aromas of blackberry, red cherry, minerals. Juicy and spicy; lots of fresh, red/black fruit. 

From a small parcel in lieu-dit La Combe in Puligny-Montrachet, Dureuil's 2023 Bourgogne Chardonnay offers up notes of citrus oil, crisp orchard fruit and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium-bodied, satiny and bright palate that's fine-boned and mouthwatering. - William Kelley, robertparker.com
