Founded in Hanoi in 2020, Ve De Di is Vietnam’s first independent whisky distillery and has quickly grown into a leader in craft spirits. Their philosophy is grain-to-glass, working closely with local farmers and sourcing ingredients from across the country. The Crème de Coconut highlights this approach, drawing on coconuts from Bến Tre in the south along with other regional ingredients to showcase Vietnam’s rich agricultural heritage.

Tasting Note:
Velvety and indulgent, this liqueur captures the lush sweetness of fresh coconut cream balanced with subtle vanilla. On the palate it is smooth and tropical, with notes of coconut water, a touch of sugarcane, and a hint of sea breeze salinity.

From the winery: Overture 2022 captivates you from the start. Its aromatic profile weaves a complex tapestry of bright cherry, fresh forest berries, and cut rose stems interwoven with delicate scents of violets, toasted almond, and anise. Blackberry, blueberry, and wild cherry take the lead on the palate with a lively acidity that adds a vibrant edge. The finish is long and rounded, with a touch of mocha and black tea that showcase the wine’s depth. This expression of selected parcels from our estate vineyards will age gracefully for years to come.

From the distillery: Made using mainland peat from St. Fergus, the sweet phenolic content of the whisky amounts to 35 PPM. A lengthy fermentation period of 160 hours results in a fruit-forward spirit that lends itself perfectly to ageing in the finest Sherry oak.

Nose: Cedarwood, cigar box, butterscotch and mocha, with orange peel, honey and plum jam.

Taste: Dark chocolate, smoked honey and mocha, with figs, treacle, burnt sugar and puffs of peat smoke.

From the distillery: Coming in at 35 PPM, the whisky has a sweeter style of smoke character owing to the mainland peat from St. Fergus used to kiln the barley. After a lengthy 160-hour fermentation, the whisky has a complex character which stands up well to ageing in virgin oak casks.

Nose: Smoldering oak embers, burnt liquorice and honey, with ginger, butterscotch and orange peel.

Taste: Cocoa, crème brûlée and toasted almonds, with cinnamon, aniseed and campfire smoke.

From the producer: Sonoma Whiskey is craft to its core, made from grain to glass entirely in-house using select California grains and small batch double pot distillation in a copper Scottish still. This is a very old world approach to making whiskey. It’s less efficient, but as artisans we are deeply inspired by the food and wine of Sonoma County, committed to the craft of bringing you wonderful whiskey, even if we are doing it the hard way.

92 Points! The 2019 Cap de Faugères has tightened up a lot on the nose, showing dense black fruit, tar and graphite scents, quite Left Bank in style. The palate is much more expressive, featuring fleshy red berry fruit mixed with allspice, clove and white pepper. Persistent and quite convincing on the finish. 99 Points! The purity of fruit is really something else here, with currants and fresh flowers, such as violets and roses. Flower stems as well. Fantastic length and structure to the wine, with tightness and focus. Wonderful fruit. Graceful. A blend of 78% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot, 7% petit verdot, 6% cabernet franc and 1% malbec. Jeb Dunnuck, 96 Points A blockbuster of a Les Forts. Deep ruby/plum hue followed by textbook Latour notes of currants, melted crayon, graphite, and lead pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, dense, and concentrated on the palate, with a powerful structured mouthfeel, remarkable purity, perfectly ripe tannins, and a great, great finish. It might be the finest Les Forts I've tasted. Hitting 13.1% alcohol, it's approachable today yet has another 30 years of longevity. Drink 2026-2056.

James Suckling, 96 Points Blue fruits and lead pencil come through here. Medium to full body. Firm and silky tannins and a crisp and citrusy finish. Nice zest. Floral and fruity. Al dente fruit. Needs four or five years to show its excellence. Try after 2028.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 95 Points The 2020 Les Forts de Latour is superb. Hints of gravel, dried herbs, game and licorice weave through a core of dark red/purplish fruit. Spice, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco follow. The purity of the flavors is just striking. Initially a touch reticent, the 2020 fleshes out beautifully with a bit of air. I would give this at least another year or two in bottle. A magnificent Forts de Latour.

93 Points! The 2022 L'Esprit De Chevalier Blanc is a beautifully elegant white offering juicy citrus and minty floral notes in a focused, fresh profile. Medium to full-bodied, it’s clean, balanced, and vibrant, with terrific purity and precision. It’s the second wine of the domaine yet tastes like a Grand Vin. Medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, it’s ample and concentrated, framed by delicate dry extracts and bright acids that segue into a long, fresh and delicate finish. From vines planted in 1988 totaling .75 hectare, the parcel is situated at the one of the highest points and at the limit of the Saint-Aubin appellation on border of the Grand Cru of Chevalier-Montrachet. The soil is very calcareous, the distorted and deformed stones create an outcropping in the shape of dog teeth (hence, the name). After aging in barrels for 12 months (20% of new oak barrels), the wine is placed in vats for 3 months and is bottled at the estate.

The 2023 Jérome Fornerot Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" is a white Burgundy wine with tasting notes that include Asian pears, apple blossoms, and toasted macadamias on the nose, followed by a full-bodied palate with notes of Jonagold apples, salted lemon, and a refreshing acidity, balanced by limestone minerality and a persistent finish. It's known for its precision, minerality, and rich, yet refreshing character. 

93 Points! The mellow and soft 2020 Camino de los Arrieros comes from the same plots as the 2019 I tasted next to it, but the profile of the wine is quite different. This 2020 is a full 1% higher in alcohol, and despite keeping a low 12.5% alcohol, it comes through as riper and more fruit-driven. The integration of the oak in all the wines from De Dios is amazing; the wines show purity, delineation, balance, elegance and freshness.
