Founded in Hanoi in 2020, Ve De Di is Vietnam’s first independent whisky distillery and has quickly grown into a leader in craft spirits. Their philosophy is grain-to-glass, working closely with local farmers and sourcing ingredients from across the country. The Crème de Coconut highlights this approach, drawing on coconuts from Bến Tre in the south along with other regional ingredients to showcase Vietnam’s rich agricultural heritage.

The grapes for this wine come from unique vineyards, particularly well-suited for these wines, that are on a hillside exposed to the rising sun but protected from the hotter setting sun by a pine forest. Its position allows the grapes to fully ripen on vines planted in clay earth with a calcareous subsoil. Smooth and supple, clean, clear and crisp, a nice purity to this with clear minerality and bite. A touch lean, some austerity here though balanced by juiciness and corresponding acidity, nicely bright but serious at the same time given the dark fruits and spiced edges. Tannins are well integrated, this is just a little sharp and straight, not yet softening and expanding but such great potential. Good grip and intensity, this is a powerful wine, focussed with persistence.
