The story here, at least on the surface, is quite simple. We got a call from a supplier offering us a pristine cache of Lopez de Heredia’s Rioja Reserva Viña Tondonia 2001, one of our favorite sources, from one of our favorite regions in an epic vintage. There was little to think about so long as the price wasn’t out of line. It wasn’t, and our answer (a resounding ‘yes’!) didn’t take long. As a matter of fact, we have the best price in the country on a true treasure of a Rioja. If you are a true aficionado of Rioja, your reaction is the same as ours was. Whoopee!

What a surprise! An epic reload on one of the fastest selling Bordeaux offers from 2020. Only 25 cases so act quick on it. Here's the story again to get you up to speed... How do you think the wine from one of Chateau Margaux’s closest neighbors would taste? Surprisingly enough, for many years it didn’t taste very good. Now? Wow.

We are really excited about today’s Bordeaux offer as it is Chateau Pavie and Troplong Mondot’s neighbor, received 99 Points and was #7 in James Suckling Top 100 wines for 2019!

Today we Charbonniere. Yeah, it’s a verb…and a winery. An outstanding winery…

The area around the town of Maury, in the south of France, has multiple sites with old vines planted in the local black schist soils (not unlike the llicorella soils in Priorat to the south). Chateau St. Roch is located near Maury, where superstar vintner/consultant Jean-Marc Lafage grew up and first tended vines. So, when a property there came up for sale, he was quick to snap it up. Jean-Marc makes four different wines from this estate, all dry reds in an area previously known for dessert wines.

This story never gets old. Sometimes the ‘cult’ of a particular wine doesn’t necessarily start with a ‘score’, sometimes it can start with a simple quote… “…most of us agreed on the top 3 wines, just differed on the order...that said Puech Haut's 2011 Reboussier blew my ass away (brain and palate too) but so did the 2010 Pegau Capo and Dan's own estate in Maury-his 2011 Cabirau Maury sec (I rated it 95)...but here's the fly in the vinous ointment....Capo sells for $450, Cabirau Maury sec for $25....anyone loving full-flavored Provencal-inspired juicy reds has to be nuts not to (be) stock-piling the Cabirau.”

Today? The highest-scoring Chilean wine in the history of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. And the price? Silly.

Today’s righteous deal comes from the fine folks at Foley Estates in the Sta. Rita Hills. This is an exciting opportunity for us as wines of this caliber from these types of vineyards, made at this production level, tend to sell out.
