To all Wine Exchangers,

“As for (Schiopetto’s) 2013’s, they are terrific across the board.” - Antonio Galloni

A couple months back you guys bought a ton of wine from our initial 2013 Schiopetto offer.

Now, some of you more astute Collio-philes may have noticed there was a Schiopetto staple wine missing from that offer.

“Hey, where’s the Sauvignon?”

Oh, yeah, the Sauvignon! Of course, that one didn’t make the new supplier’s first shipment from Italy so we ‘only’ had two of Collio’s greatest bang-for-the-buck whites to offer that day.

Well, we’re making up for it today. The boat has landed, the wine unloaded, and now we get to sell one of the finest Sauvignon Blanc deals on the planet to you!

As we wrote in the previous offer, the 2014 vintage in northeastern Italy is going to go down as one of the all-time worst for the region. Accordingly, we’re going backwards with many producers and purchasing more 2013’s, which were actually brilliant.

That being said, Schiopetto is never in a rush to release their wines, preferring to let them rest after bottling and develop more character and harmony prior to putting them on the shelves. That means that this 2013 Sauvignon is in fact ‘fresh wine’, just coming to market.

The Schiopetto name is legendary among Italian wine producers. The name is spoken of in their home region the same way Antinori, Gaja, and Biondi Santi are spoken of in theirs. Schiopetto was one of the pioneers of this area and was receptive to new ideas and innovations to help raise the standard of the whites produced here. In fact, Schiopetto became the standard in the early 90s. You didn’t find many Italian whites with the drive, delineation, and palate authority back in the day. There are a lot more now as others followed his lead.

The 2013 Schiopetto Sauvignon Collio is frigging awesome. I love this wine, as much (if not more) than the winery’s Pinot Grigio and Friulano, which are both no-brainers as well.

Galloni waxed, The 2013 Sauvignon brings together super-expressive varietal Sauvignon aromatics with ripe yellow orchard fruit, a combination that works beautifully here. Sage, mint, peach and apricot are some of the notes that flesh out on the finish. This is one of the riper, more voluptuous Friulian Sauvignons readers will come across, yet all the elements are impeccably balanced throughout. 93 points.”

The distribution scenario has changed and Shiopetto’s prices are in much friendlier places. So you have a top producer rolling a better vintage at better prices than most of the marketplace has to offer. It’s not rocket science, folks.

Originally slated to roll at a release price of $28, we’re featuring the 2013 Schiopetto Sauvignon for just $19.98, remarkable value considering the history and pedigree of the winery and the fact we used to sell the wine (at our low margins) for well over $30 a bottle!

These are lifted, beautifully crafted, age worthy, pure, well-priced wines that will be handy for the next several years and beyond. The fact that these are this tasty and expressive, at better prices, at a time when most of the genre is underperforming (thanks to vintage) makes them an even more important ‘acquisition’.
