To all Best Winers,

First, be sure to watch today’s video. Then start reading...

Now, I may not be in the candy business, but I can tell you this is one heckuva sweet deal! (Ugh)

C’mon, its Halloween. Loosen up a little bit and treat yourself to one of the finest dessert wine deals you’ve never tasted.

Quinta do Noval is without a doubt one of the most prestigious Port houses in Portugal. Their wines are world-renowned, and symbolic of all that is great and cool about Port.

Their 1994 Nacional remains, for my money, the single greatest bottle of Port I’ve ever tasted, hands down. Problem with that bottle is it will set you back around $1200. Yikes!

But do not fear. That’s not the only bottle of wine that Quinta do Noval makes.  This magical estate also produces what is generally perceived as the smartest value in the Port world, a classically styled Late Bottled Vintage Port.

Let’s not even think about that $1200 bottle of Quinta do Noval’s Nacional. Let’s scratch that one from the database. Instead, let’s just consider the winery’s ‘standard’ vintage Port. Which is anything but.

We just sold out of the 2011 vintage of that wine at close to $80 per bottle.

Yet, we can offer a Port from the same property and the same vineyards, with 6 more years of aging and a 93 point score for ¼ the price?

Strange, but true.

The key difference is the Late Bottled Vintage Port we are offering today usually does not come from a ‘Vintage’ year, in other words, a year when the grapes are so good that the winery produces their $80 flagship Port.

When the grapes are ‘really good’ as opposed to ‘great’ they produce this fabulous Late Bottled Vintage Port that traditionally sees an extra two years in wood prior to bottling.

It is produced only in certain vintages that are still good enough to put a vintage on the label, then released after being bottled unfiltered to preserve all that yumminess. Love it.

So, when you’re kid is knocking back their fourth bag of M&M’s, slowly working their way towards that stack of bite-size 100 Grand Bars, you can remember to pour yourself a glass of this 93 points nectar at your next dinner and relive Halloween all over again…in style.

Hope your Halloween is a safe and tasty one...

Quinta Do Noval Porto Late Bottled Vintage 2005

93 points! This is succulent and fruity, with concentrated flavors of dark plum, blackberry and chocolate mousse that are backed by good grip. The snappy finish features hints of licorice. Drink now through 2025. - Wine Spectator, 7/31/12
