To all Best Winers,
California in the house! And more than likely your house as well after you get a load of today’ deal.
White Wine Saturdays are fun for us, what with offering a bevy of amazing white wine deals that seemingly appear out of nowhere on a weekly basis, there’s always something fun and new and getting a righteous deal never gets old.
Today’s righteous deal comes from the fine folks at Foley Estates in the Santa Rita Hills. This is an exciting opportunity for us as wines of this caliber from these types of vineyards, made at this production level, tend to sell out.
But hey, there is the occasional gem that slips through the cracks, which is the story here.
Two Sisters is the super-duper, ultra-premium line from Bill Foley and his Foley Estate in the Santa Rita Hills. This Chardonnay was made to bump heads with the very best that the Golden state has to offer, no expense was spared.
It’s sourced from Foley’s best, low-yielding blocks from his Courtney’s Vineyard (formerly Ashley’s Vineyard) in the Santa Rita Hills. This is serious real estate, Foley’s neighbors including Sanford & Benedict, Sea Smoke, Clos Pepe and a host of others.
Speaking of Sea Smoke, the wine was harvested and started by former Sea Smoke winemaker Kris Curran, and then was handed over to former Talley winemaker (and now full-time Foley winemaker) Leslie Mead Renaud. Think those two ladies know a thing or two about great wine?
All this delicious Chardonnay juice then spent 19 months aging in 100% new, bling French oak prior to a little time in the bottle before release. No expense was spared, in the vineyard or winery, to produce this Rolls Royce of a Chardonnay
It’s jam-packed…with everything. Citrus, toast, baking spices, snappy tropical fruits, vanilla, the bottle can barely hold it all in! The key here is, besides all this flavor, the wine is still buttressed by very fine acids, thanks to the low yields and cool location of the vineyard.
This wine doesn’t pretend to be French, doesn’t pretend to Sauvignon Blanc. This is dyed-in-the-wool, all-out California Chardonnay. Hear it ROAR!
The $55 retail for this wine is reasonable given the tiny production and care and dedication that went into making it. It is a rock star Chardonnay and should be treated as such.
Which makes it all the more surprising that we can offer it out today at such a ludicrous price given the quality. What was once $55 is now only $21.88 while supplies last. That is literally a 60% haircut off one of the state’s uber-premium, world-class Chardonnay.
