93+ Points!  Saturated ruby-red. Pure, highly perfumed aromas of black cherry, currant, plum, minerals, tobacco, leather and fresh herbs. Very ripe, suave and spicy; at once subtle and gripping. Lovely cabernet character dominating today. Very firm, long finish is youthful but not hard-edged. Showing extremely well.  - Stephen T ...read more

92 Points!  The 2014 Capbern is bold, ripe and quite juicy. Although not especially subtle, the 2014 possesses striking aromatic nuance, power and intensity. Dried cherry, licorice, herbs, tobacco and mint add attractive aromatic topnotes, but it is the wine’s juiciness that stands out most. This is a strong showing. The 2014 of ...read more

90 Points!  One of the sleepers of the 1996 vintage, Lafon-Rochet has turned out an atypically powerful, rich, and concentrated wine bursting with black currant fruit. The opaque purple color gives way to a medium to full-bodied, tannic, backward wine with terrific purity, a sweet, concentrated mid-palate, and a long, blockbuster finish.  ...read more

93 Points! Here’s a St.-Estèphe that’s really appealing young but also has good aging potential. Great balance between crisp acidity, ripe fruit and elegant dry tannins. The finish is long and rather subtle. Hard not to drink now. - James Suckling, February 2017   90 Points! This delivers a direct beam of r ...read more

Le Saint Estephe de Montrose 2012
Availability: Low Availability
Crafted by the Montrose team from the same vineyards as Montrose and aged in the same barrel cellar as Montrose, the wine shows a classically ‘claret’ ease on the palate, with red fruits, currant, spring flowers and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied with ripe tannins, excellent freshness and gulpable texture, this, like the 2010, drinks incredibly well (perhaps even better?) right out of the gate.  Though given a couple years this can turn into something really special…not that it isn’t already special now.

90 Points! The 2014 Lilian Ladouys is soft, plump and incredibly appealing. Bright red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, mint and sweet spice notes are all pushed forward. This is an absolutely delicious, joyous bottle of wine to enjoy for its primary fruit and raciness. The blend is 55 % Merlot, 40 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 4 % Cabernet Franc, and 1 ...read more

Meyney Saint Estephe 2000
Availability: In Stock
Poor Meyney. It always gets bagged on by the press when its young and folks seldom give it the chance to do what it does best and bloom with about a decade in the cellar.  We tasted this wine along with a bunch of older ‘heavyweight’ classified growth-level wines and good old Meyney turned out, in the end, to be the best wine on the table. At this juncture it is beautifully reminiscent of the top vintages of this wine I’ve consumed, namely the 1985, 1989 and 1995. Forget those early tasting notes, what’s in the bottle is special.

92 Points! Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, smoke, chocolate, licorice and tobacco are some of the signatures in the 2014 Meyney. This is one of the more overt, flamboyant 2014s readers will come across. Although certainly not a shy wine, it is loaded with personality. The late harvest and the generally intense style favored by consulting winemak ...read more

Montrose Saint Estephe 2010 Pre-Arrival

100 Points!  This is considered to be among the greatest vintages ever made in Montrose, right up with the 1929, 1945, 1947, 1959, 1961, 1989, 1990 and 2009. Harvest was October 15 to 17. The wine has really come on since I last tasted it, and it needs at least another 10 years of cellaring. The blend was 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlo ...read more

Montrose St Estephe 2008 6.0L

One of the superstars of the vintage, this classic Montrose is not as showy or opulent as the 2010, 2009 or 2003, but it offers a dense purple color followed by gorgeously sweet black raspberry and black currant fruit intermixed with loamy, earthy, forest floor notes, a floral component and a long, full-bodied finish. The 2008 was fashioned fr ...read more
