{"id":2544,"date":"2018-03-31T00:48:52","date_gmt":"2018-03-31T00:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.winex.com\/stockreport\/?p=2544"},"modified":"2018-04-07T18:12:08","modified_gmt":"2018-04-07T18:12:08","slug":"pinot-noir-auf-deutsch-sehr-gut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.winex.com\/stockreport\/2018\/03\/31\/pinot-noir-auf-deutsch-sehr-gut\/","title":{"rendered":"Pinot Noir auf Deutsch?\u00a0 Sehr gut!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pinot Noir has been a hot topic for some time now.\u00a0 And the usual discussion about whether the pricing and performance is currently more exciting in California\u2019s Central Coast or Russian River, or in special vintages from the Motherland (France), is the norm.\u00a0 But with global warming, there are new considerations to the Pinot discussion, particularly in a juicy vintage like 2015.\u00a0 Like \u2026<em>Germany<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>No, we are not talking about some leafy tasting, brownish <em>Sp\u00e4tburgunder<\/em> that garners little interest outside of <em>Deutschland<\/em> itself.\u00a0 We are now talking about <em>extremely<\/em> appealing examples of German Pinot Noir these days, wines that are competitive on the <em>world<\/em> stage. \u00a0At the top of our list in that category is today\u2019s selection from <strong>Meyer-N\u00e4kel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This player is no surprise either to us any more, though we must admit our surprise from our first trip to the region more than a decade ago.\u00a0 We have sold several vintages of the Meyer-N\u00e4kel wines\u00a0\u00a0since\u00a0that time and they only seem to be getting <em>better<\/em>.\u00a0 \u00a0Werner N\u00e4kel himself is credited with putting the Ahr on the map internationally back in the 1990s and nothing has changed, other than the Pinots have taken on a deeper fruit component and a more tender mouth feel, \u00a0while never losing the lift, clarity and purity that make them special.\u00a0 The Ahr Valley has a long history with the varietal and is only elevated by the current weather trends.<\/p>\n<p>Yes there are easier things to sell than German Pinot Noir, but the quality at Meyer-N\u00e4kel has earned them the right to be included in any serious discussion about the varietal.\u00a0 As you might have guessed, the 2015 vintage that was a watershed for the Rieslings was also very kind to Pinot Noir.\u00a0 So the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winex.com\/product\/15259\/Meyer_Nakel_Spatburgunder_Pinot_Noir_Estate_2015.html\"><strong>Meyer Nakel Sp\u00e4tburgunder (aka Pinot Noir) Estate 2015<\/strong><\/a> has a bit more flesh and sweetness on the palate, making it perhaps the most ideal \u2018crossover\u2019 Pinot they have made. \u00a0Yet it still speaks of the unique micro-climate in this river valley.<\/p>\n<p>Lively cherry and red berry fruit is accented with some smoky tones, cinnamon, slatey minerality, and a whiff of damp forest.\u00a0 The fruit takes hold on the palate but there is a perfect tension that keeps everything bright and expressive.\u00a0\u00a0 For under $30, it can hold its own in any arena, with the personality best pegged as somewhere between Oregon and the Cote de Beaune, but with its own spin.\u00a0 A must for Pinot lovers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pinot Noir has been a hot topic for some time now.\u00a0 And the usual discussion about whether the pricing and performance is currently more exciting in California\u2019s Central Coast or Russian River, or in special vintages from the Motherland (France), is the norm.\u00a0 But with global warming, there are new considerations to the Pinot discussion, &hellip;
