Grand Mayan Ultra Anejo is double distilled, slow cooked in steel autoclave ovens, natural yeast is added to the fermentation, and they utilize a steel tower column for distillation. The Ultra Añejo is aged more than 3 years in American and French oak barrels, with 4 and 5 year aged tequila blended into it. You may see descriptions saying that Grand Mayan Ultra is categorized as an añejo, but it is aged OVER 3 years, and being that it is blended with 4 and 5 year old tequila, it easily is considered an Extra Añejo.

On the nose, aromas of cognac, burnt sugar, mild chocolate, and caramel delight, with some spice and a bit of vanilla and nuts. There are mild hints of apricot, smoke, and tobacco, with sweet, mild agave aromas rolling in at the end. The mouth begins with a rich, sweet, dark and oh-so-smooth taste, with a nice oily, caramel and chocolate note, followed by spice, with some heat at first, a dash of pepper, light smoke, fruit, and a touch of spearmint. There is a hint of citrus and a very faint tobacco note. The finish culminates in warm, spicy, caramel notes, with citrus and agave closing the doors on the exit. For those that want an unbelievably smooth, chocolate, caramel, sweet, clean taste, this is it. The ultimate sipping tequila.

Tepozán is one of the few tequilas on the market that is fully grown, processed, and bottled at the source. The Tepozan distillery was created by the Agave growers specifically for the distillation of their estate grown agave. The distillery was built above a deep water well in the southern Highlands town of San Julian. The distillery is one of the few that can afford to use properly mature agave because they own the land and the plants themselves. Cooked in above ground clay ovens over steam, a process that takes many days to complete. Fermentation in open top steel tanks with native yeast and distilled twice on small pot stills. No additives of any kind, beyond the addition of H2O, and bottled by hand. The Blanco is clean and full of fruity agave flavors with hints of roasted cucurbits and subtle earthy spice Learn More

Named for Don Felipe Camarena, the man who established La Alteña Distillery in 1937 and where El Tesoro is distilled today. The agaves used in its production are 100% estate-grown agaves from Los Altos (aka Highlands) of Jalisco. After the agaves cook for three days in a horno (oven), they are then crushed by a two-ton tahona stone. Fermentation and distillation includes not only the aguamiel (cooked agave juice), but the fibers and pulp. It is distilled to proof meaning no water is added. It is bottled without aging at 80 proof. The aroma is as if you buried your nose in a green smoothie filled with fresh-cut cabbage, romaine lettuce, kiwi, pear, aloe vera while preparing a beurre noisette (brown butter). These aromas follow on the palate where you’ll also find ripe heirloom carrots, Kaffir limes and roasted pear. This is a classic, flavorful tequila--one that is far from the vodka-like tequilas that are on the market. Learn More

Using hand-forged tools, we pursue the venerable art of tequila making, led by third-generation master tequilero Felipe Camarena. Our Reposado is crafted from estate grown ripe blue agave. Before baking, the green hearts are taken out of each and every agave, which eliminates a vegetal taste and offers more sweetness to the taste. After the agave has been evenly baked and crushed with “Frankenstein” (mechanical tahona), it is then fermented for four to five days using only natural yeasts. Once fermentation is complete it is then carefully double distilled with pure rainwater and natural spring water in 100% copper pot stills. With no glycerin, chemicals or flavors added, the result is pure handcrafted tequila. Barrel aging for six months in American oak helps develop its rich flavors.

    Quickview

The ArteNOM Selección de 1414 Reposado’s agave are cooked in brick ovens for 36 hours, fermented in stainless steel vats and twice distilled in copper pot stills. They use field extracted wild yeast in their ferment, creating a layered flavor and really underlining the terroir of their land. Next up, it sees 4 months in third-fill American Bourbon barrels. You will notice the color of this repo is a shade of very light straw, due to the short period of time it spends in those third-fill barrels which are purposely chosen to be more neutral, adding a gentle wood influence. On the nose the undeniable presence of cooked agave is right up front with spice and a hint of anise intertwined with the brightness of lime and grapefruit zest. Warmth and a touch of sweetness envelopes the palate as the agave takes center stage with just enough influence from the barrel. Spiced shortbread and citrus round out the mid-palate and the finish leaves you a bit of salinity and chili heat. While writing these very notes I pour myself another finger, never regretting that its before 5pm.
