    JS95

95 Points! Brambleberries, licorice, dried blueberries, cedar, tobacco, smoke, vanilla, dried citrus and even a hint of grapefruit. The lazer-sharp acidity evinces a real sense of purity, and the tannins are really edgy and structured. Full-bodied but very elegant and stylish. The finish goes on and on, thanks to the shimmering acidity. Beautiful now, but better in 2024. - JamesSuckling.com Learn More

The 2010 Viña Cubillo Tinto Crianza is superb and shows great depth and nuance, with great freshness, and the red cherries are complemented by notes of blood oranges, nutmeg and other spices. 4. Clos i Terrasses Priorat Laurel 2016
    JD95
    $39.98
    Availability:In Stock

95 Points! The 2016 Laurel is sensational stuff and, in truth, matches several older vintages of the grand vin in quality. A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 16 months in a mix of oak, concrete, and amphora, this deep purple-colored beauty offers up a fresh, vibrant bouquet of blueberries, crisp plums, violets, and spring flowers. Possessing full-bodied richness, beautiful depth of fruit and richness, and a fresh, elegant style, it’s a brilliant wine that’s going to evolve gracefully for 10-15 years. - Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com

  6. Lopez de Heredia Rioja Vina Tondonia Reserva 2006
    WA95
    $39.98
    Availability:In Stock
95 Points!  The red flagship 2006 Viña Tondonia Reserva was inspired by the vineyards of the Médoc but produced with local grapes, 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho, 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo, which achieved 13% alcohol in 2006. It always matures in used American oak barriques for some six years. The oldest of all the reds I tasted, it was also the one with more freshness, which speaks to the quality of the vineyard. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com

  7. Raul Perez Bierzo La Vizcaina El Rapolao 2016
    WA95
    $31.98
    Availability:In Stock
95+ Points!  The cool and elegant character of the El Rapolao plot seems to have been amplified by the weather conditions in the 2016 La Vizcaína El Rapolao. Pérez does not own all the vineyards, so sourcing can sometimes vary within the same vineyard, and since 2016 it comes from two old plots where the Mencía is mixed with other varieties; the wine seems to have gained in depth and complexity as a result. In 2016 he did a slightly shorter maceration and matured the wine in 500-liter oak barrels for a little over 12 months. The vineyard yields well, and the wine is always expressive, balanced and elegant. It seems like slightly higher yields suit it better, and the wines have good tension and an herbal twist that adds to the complexity and freshness. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com

  9. Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero 2015
    JD95
    WA94
    $39.98
    Availability:In Stock
95 Points! Made with guidance from Peter Sisseck, the 2015 Crianza from Hacienda Monasterio is a blockbuster effort that’s a blend of 75% Tinto Fino, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Merlot, all of which spent 18 months in 30% new French oak. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by terrific notes of blueberries, violets, graphite, and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, deep, concentrated, and elegant, with a traditional style and building tannin, it’s incredible that they produce upward of 30,000 cases of this beauty. It’s no doubt beautiful today yet will keep for a decade or more. Even at $50, it’s a smoking value! - Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com

    WA95
    $25.98
    Availability:In Stock
95 Points! The NV Amontillado Gran Barquero is an impressive 25-30 years old. It wears a dark amber robe and a subtle, elegant and focused nose. It’s an Amontillado of finesse, with biological, salty notes and roasted almonds, close to the Fino character. The palate shows a medium-bodied wine of a velvety texture, fine acidity and clean, focused flavors, It represents superb value for the quality it delivers. Drink 2013-2019. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  11. Olivier Riviere Tinto El Cadastro Arlanza 2014
    WA95
    $34.98
    Availability:In Stock
95 Points! The 2013 was not produced, so we jumped to the 2014 Viñas del Cadastro, an old-vine cuvée with some varieties mixed in the field together with the Tempranillo, mostly some Garnacha, but also some isolated plants of Bobal, Garnacha Tintorera or other varieties. This is a 'domaine' wine, produced with grapes from his own vineyards, including the grapes from his flagship vineyard El Quemado in the years where it's not bottled. There is a lot more depth and complexity here; it's not heavy at all and it's very balanced, and it feels like a very good vintage for this wine. It was produced with extremely low yields, some 1,500 kilos of grapes from hectare, but it doesn't have the astringency you often find in very low yields; the vines seem to have achieved very good balance. It combines floral notes with some red and black wild berries and just a spicy twist. The wine opens up nicely with time in the glass. The tannins are very fine with the subtle austerity from the stony, deep gravel soils, coming through as extremely elegant and definitively fresher than 2012, with the alcohol pretty integrated despite having some 14.5% by volume. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  12. Castro Candaz A Boca do Demo Ribeira Sacra 2016
    WA95+
    $44.98
    Availability:In Stock
95+ Points! What differentiates the 2016 A Boca do Demo from the other reds from Castro Candaz is the stony character of the palate, with the strict austerity of the granite and some chalk, finishing dry and long. It's elegant and perfumed, with violets, red berries and blood orange peel notes, a super-mineral personality and very fine tannins. Simply superb. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com Learn More
  13. Dominio del Aguila Picaro Ribera del Duero 2015
    JS95
    WA92
    $26.98
    Availability:In Stock
92+ Points! I also tasted the 2015 Pícaro Tinto, which should be released sometime in the spring of 2017. 2015 is a warmer year than 2014, and all the vineyards selected for this cuvée are north-facing, which is the cooler exposition, ideal to compensate the heat of the year. The élevage was a little shorter than in previous vintages to try to avoid a strong effect in the wine. The wine is still in the fruit-driven phase, it's juicy and it has some tannins and the seriousness of the limestone soils, a little riper than the Reserva, without the same length. This is usually produced with grapes from vineyards on soils with a little more clay, where the wine is more forward and there's better ripeness and less austerity. Their barrels are aging and the effect is a lot less noticeable than when the barrels were new. This is a fresh interpretation of 2015. I wish more Crianzas from Ribera del Duero had this joviality and approachability while keeping the balance and the serious quality profile. I'd say this is a real triumph over the vintage, at the same (or even a little better) quality level than the 2014. This has all the ingredients to be a commercial success. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  14. Jimenez Landi Las Iruelas El Teimblo Castilla y Leon 2014
    JS95
    WA96
    $74.98
    Availability:In Stock
96 Points!  The single-vineyard Garnacha 2014 Las Iruelas was produced with grapes from a 1.5-hectare plot of old vines in the village of El Tiemblo in the province of Ávila within the geographical zone of the Gredos Mountains at some 1,000 meters altitude. This is always a perfumed, open, showy, heady and aromatic wine. The palate is super elegant, with very fine tannins and also dusty, with some herbal notes that add freshness. This is always an ethereal wine, with great freshness, fluid and long, certainly lifted by the subdued minerality. 964 bottles were filled in June 2016. Not all the grapes from the vineyard are used for the wine, and there was a severe selection because they got some hail. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate #231

  15. Leirana Albarino Finca Genoveva Rias Baixas 2016
    WA95
    $54.98
    Availability:In Stock
95 Points!  The peachy and aromatic 2016 Leirana Finca Genoveva has a sharp palate with the firm texture provided by the granite and good acidity, but it's a little rounder and more approachable than the sharp 2015. This has Albariño character—it's floral and expressive but marked by the soil; it's a serious wine, really very good value for the quality it delivers. Some 6,000 bottles were produced, as they produce two 2,500-liter oak foudres almost every year. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com

  16. Osborne Amontillado 51-1A 30 years VORS Sherry 500ml
    WS93
    WA95
    $79.98
    Availability:In Stock
95 Points! The NV Amontillado 51-1A VORS, from a solera created in 1830 has a bright amber color. Intensely aromatic, with a nose full of balsamic notes (rosemary, thyme) intermixed with some smoke, spices, noble woods and hazelnuts. The intense, complex and complete palate shows great elegance and finesse, with a bitter orange and saline finish that makes it very tasty. Extremely long. Only 600 bottles are filled each year. This bottle would last, age and improve, probably for many years. Drink 2013-2020. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  17. Toro Albala Don Px Convento Seleccion 1929
    WA95
    $299.98
    Availability:In Stock
95 Points!  The extreme 1929 Don PX Convento Selección is a thick, dense and unusual, rare sweet beast. It is very dark with a green border, dense, oily and serious full-bodied palate with the profile of a PX from Jerez. With 500 grams of residual sugar per liter, it is a little monolithic, a little heavy and not so easy to drink. Still it is an impressive, very sweet wine that is really unique. 6,200 bottles were filled in September 2014.  Luis Gutierrez, eRobertParker.com #216, December 2014
