  1. Izadi Rioja El Regalo 2014
    JS91
    WA91
Special Price $16.98 Regular Price $32.98
    Availability:In Stock
91 Points! The 2014 El Regalo is named after the estate in the village of Villabuena where the old-vine Tempranillo grapes used for it are grown. The destemmed and crushed grapes fermented in oak vats with half of the volume going through malolactic in those vats and the other half in new barriques. The wine matured in the best barriques money can buy (50% French, 50% American) for some 20 months. It's ripe, heady, juicy and with a lactic component that gives it a commercial profile. The palate is full-bodied, chewy and tannic. Contrary to what many might think, the younger wine is also the most expensive. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com Learn More

97 Points! A magical wine, the 2014 Reserva from winemaker Almudena Calvo is largely Tempranillo blend with 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Merlot, all aged in French oak for a year. Deep and powerful, with beautiful concentration, it’s nevertheless incredibly elegant and seamless on the palate, and shows terrific complexity in its blackcurrants, graphite, white flowers, and vanilla bean aromas and flavors. A wine of great intensity as well as purity, it builds with time in the glass and has a fabulous finish that won’t quit. It’s not for those craving lightweight aromas and flavors, but it’s a thrilling wine. Drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years. - Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com Learn More

  5. Torre de Ona Rioja Reserva Finca Martelo 2014
    WA94
    $34.98
    Availability:In Stock
94 Points!  The 2014 Martelo is produced with the grapes from their oldest vines, mostly Tempranillo, put through a cold soak after alcoholic fermentation then in barrique for a slow malolactic fermentation of 96 days. This was followed by an élevage in 80% American and 20% French oak barrels for two years, during which time it was racked four times. It has incredible aromatics with surprising notes of beef blood, iron and meat with tons of fruit, as Martelo is the vineyard where they find more fruit. This is a very elegant, aromatic and fine Rioja (they decided to bottle it in a Burgundy bottle) and it's not a coincidence, because that is what they are looking for. The palate follows the same path of finesse, balance and freshness. A very impressive Rioja. Bravo! - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com

A highly perfumed bouquet evokes red fruit preserves, potpourri and incense, with a smoky mineral overtone that gains strength as the wine opens up. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering juicy raspberry, cherry and spicecake flavors that put on weight with air. Shows excellent precision on the clinging finish, which features sweet red fruit liqueur and floral elements and harmonious, silky tannins.

  7. Terroir Al Limit Priorat Arbossar 2014
    JS92
    WA94
Special Price $59.98 Regular Price $90.00
    Availability:In Stock
94 Points! The 2014 Arbossar is old-vine Cariñena from a north-facing slope (coster), fermented with natural yeast and matured in an oak foudre from Stockinger until bottling in June 2016. This is always a lighter colored, perfumed Cariñena, with the freshness of a north exposure, which in the warmer 2014 feels a little riper and certainly with a lot more tannins than the 2013. The idea for this wine is to ferment it and age it in cement, and remove the oak totally; this will happen from the 2015 vintage. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  8. Vall Llach Priorat Porrera 2014
    WS93
    WA93
    $56.98
    Availability:In Stock
93 Points! The village red 2014 Porrera is mostly Cariñena with 23% Garnacha from old vines on very steep slate slopes. It fermented in 225- and 500-liter oak barrels and small stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts and with daily pigéage for some 19 days. It matured for 14 months, with the Cariñena in 225- and 300-liter oak barrels and the Garnacha in 1,500-liter oak vats and clay amphorae. It feels like the juice from the old Cariñena tolerated the oak quite well, and the wine showed better balance and freshness than most of its siblings. It's quite extracted but showed more acidity, which compensated it so that it felt more balanced, in its own XL way. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  9. Olivier Riviere Tinto El Cadastro Arlanza 2014
    WA95
    $34.98
    Availability:In Stock
95 Points! The 2013 was not produced, so we jumped to the 2014 Viñas del Cadastro, an old-vine cuvée with some varieties mixed in the field together with the Tempranillo, mostly some Garnacha, but also some isolated plants of Bobal, Garnacha Tintorera or other varieties. This is a 'domaine' wine, produced with grapes from his own vineyards, including the grapes from his flagship vineyard El Quemado in the years where it's not bottled. There is a lot more depth and complexity here; it's not heavy at all and it's very balanced, and it feels like a very good vintage for this wine. It was produced with extremely low yields, some 1,500 kilos of grapes from hectare, but it doesn't have the astringency you often find in very low yields; the vines seem to have achieved very good balance. It combines floral notes with some red and black wild berries and just a spicy twist. The wine opens up nicely with time in the glass. The tannins are very fine with the subtle austerity from the stony, deep gravel soils, coming through as extremely elegant and definitively fresher than 2012, with the alcohol pretty integrated despite having some 14.5% by volume. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  11. Jimenez Landi Las Uvas de la Ira Mentrida 2014
    JS92
    WA92
    $24.98
    Availability:In Stock
92 Points! The 2014 Las Uvas de la Ira wants to showcase the typicity of the village of El Real de San Vicente. The wine is a little reduced and it clearly benefit from being in contact with air, so decanting in advance is recommended, as right now once opened there are strong aromas of struck match. I tasted one bottle that was popped and poured, and another one that had been decanted for some 12 hours, and the differences were noticeable. It has red berry fruit and something citric and aromas and a sensation akin to berry kernels and wet stones. The palate is vivacious, with fine tannins, a lively texture that show energy and a minerality that might remind of chalk. The village has granite soils at some 750 meters altitude. There is very good freshness in this 2014, with nice balance of fruit. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  12. Jimenez Landi Las Iruelas El Teimblo Castilla y Leon 2014
    JS95
    WA96
    $74.98
    Availability:In Stock
96 Points!  The single-vineyard Garnacha 2014 Las Iruelas was produced with grapes from a 1.5-hectare plot of old vines in the village of El Tiemblo in the province of Ávila within the geographical zone of the Gredos Mountains at some 1,000 meters altitude. This is always a perfumed, open, showy, heady and aromatic wine. The palate is super elegant, with very fine tannins and also dusty, with some herbal notes that add freshness. This is always an ethereal wine, with great freshness, fluid and long, certainly lifted by the subdued minerality. 964 bottles were filled in June 2016. Not all the grapes from the vineyard are used for the wine, and there was a severe selection because they got some hail. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate #231

  14. Cune Monopole Clasico Rioja Blanco Seco 2014
    JS93
    WA91
    $21.98
    Availability:In Stock
91 - 93 Points!  I was thinking "I wish this wine went back to the more serious bottlings of 40 and 50 years ago..." when tasting the regular Monopole, and they showed me this 2014 Monopole Clasico, which is a wine to celebrate the centenary of the brand (registered in 1914) and it blew me away. They have produced this wine like it was done in the good old times, adding some Manzanilla Sherry (yes, yes, you read it correctly); they top up the Viura with Manzanilla purchased from the Hidalgo family of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Not only did they add the wine, they purchased the wine in bota, so the wine is also aged in Sherry casks. It does have an amazing nose with notes of sea breeze, iodine and esparto grass. The palate is extremely tasty, but at the same time is light and fresh, with the acidity of Viura and the kick and pungency from Manzanilla. Awesome! This will be bottled in a couple of months, but I couldn't help reporting on it. It will wear the old Monopole label. It won't be a one off for the centenary, they will keep producing it every vintage. Welcome back, Monopole! 30,000 bottles produced in this first vintage.  Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate #226, August 2016

  15. Clos i Terrasses Priorat Clos Erasmus 2014
    WA97
    $169.98
    Availability:In Stock
97 Points! There is a little more Syrah in the blend of the 2014 Clos Erasmus, where it reached around 30% to complement the majority of Garnacha. As is the norm, the wine matured for some 18 months before bottling, with most of the volume in French oak barrels, 40% of which are renewed each vintage, but there are also one or two amphorae. I tasted it next to the 2013 and as the 2013 required so much attention, it took some time to get to the 2014. It showed a bit shy at first, but when I finally came back to it, I found that it had really blossomed with a mixture of violets, ground, smoky meat and black raspberries. The slight increase in Syrah was noticeable, but it somehow also seemed to increase the voice of the slate in the bottle...This is simply terrific. 3,000 bottles were filled at the end of May 2016. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate #227

  16. Primitivo Quiles Monastrell "Cono 4" 2014
    $9.98
    Availability:In Stock
The Cono 4 bottling from Primitivo Quiles is comprised entirely of Monastrell, with the 2014 vintage coming in at the customary 14.5 percent octane for this cuvée. The wine is deep, ripe and gently raisiny on both the nose and palate, but also complex, as it wafts from the glass in a mix of black cherries, hung game, garrigue, a bit of pepper, sultana raisins and a good base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and impressively transparent for this hot region, with a good core, sound acids and fine focus and grip on the long, moderately tannic and nicely balanced finish. This carries its octane very nicely. - John Gilman, View from the Cellar

  18. Finca Vinoa Ribeiro 2014
    $16.98
    Availability:In Stock
Finca Vinoa Ribeiro 2014 is a 10 hectare estate that Jose and Javier Gonzales purchased in 2003 with the intent of restoring the nearly extinct vineyards in the Avia Valley.  This is only the third or fourth release from the estate but clearly the folks at Vinoa learned quickly.  We actually referred to this one as a junior Emilio Rojo, with a clean underpinning of acidity, and a tender, plump palate showing apple, pear, and some tropical fruit notes, and a slightly honeyed finish. Made from Treixadura (92%) blended with Godello, and Albariño fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts and aged on the lees for 8 months, this is dry, but almost cocktail-y delicious and food friendly.
