96 Points! Dalmau comes from the Canajas vineyard, which has a high concentration of limestone. The sweet, savoury, red-fruited Tempranillo core is underpinned by the grassiness and tannic structure of 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Graciano. - Decanter Magazine Learn More
  2. Familia Nin-Ortiz Priorat Planetes de Nin 2013
    WA93+
    VM92
    $39.98
    Availability:In Stock
93+ Points! The 2013 Planetes de Nin is mostly Garnacha with some 35% Cariñena from a vineyard in Porrera that names the wine. The Cariñena was harvested at the end of August, and the Garnacha after the 20th of September. The wine matured in 2,850-liter oak foudres and 3,200-liter amphorae for some 16 months. I first tasted it one month after bottling and it was very closed because of the operation. I had the feeling that it was a superb vintage and wanted to give the wines a chance, so I waited until now to give it time to rest and breathe. Well, that reductive character has disappeared. Furthermore, they think they have found the cause for that reductive character in the wine--there was a deficiency in the soil of the Garnacha that they have fixed with a natural compost and the results are good. Anyway, back to the wine, this 2103 is superb indeed. The wine has also gained in depth and feels more Porrera, more austere. In this vintage they started with some full clusters (which in 2014 was increased to 100%) and the result shows in a "sensation" of freshness rather than in analytical data. The palate shows incredibly fine and elegant, refined with sleek tannins. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com Learn More
  3. Dominio De Bibei Ribeira Sacra Lalama 2013
    WA93
    $24.98
    Availability:In Stock
93 Points!  A champion in quality-to-price ratio, the red 2013 Lalama wants to replicate the traditional wine produced as a field blend that is mostly Mencía with some 10% a myriad other varieties—Brancellao, Mouratón, Sousón and Garnacha Tintorera—from many different vineyards on different soils, altitudes and expositions. The destemmed and crushed grapes fermented in 2,500-, 3,500 and 4,500-liter oak vats with indigenous yeasts followed by malolactic in 300-liter barriques where it was kept for 13 months followed by a further seven months in oak vat. It has an explosive and captivating nose, an explosion of wild berries and herbs, with just a creamy touch and some spices. It's redolent of acid berries, with an electric-like sensation in the palate revealing great freshness, focused flavors, very fine tannins and a clean, long and refreshing finish. This is plain delicious, the best Lalama I remember...This combines quality, price and availability from a region where wines tend to be produced in small quantities. It's approachable and ready but should be long lived. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com

  4. Vega Sicilia Ribera del Duero Valbuena 5o 2013
    WS92
    WA94
    $149.98
    Availability:In Stock
94 Points! Cropped from an unusually cold and rainy vintage in which they will not bottle Único, the 2013 Valbuena is always released in its fifth year. It's mostly Tempranillo with 5% Merlot that was put through a three- to four-day cold soak in the oak vats where it fermented with indigenous yeasts and was pumped over. It matured in new and used 225-liter French and American oak barriques and also in 20,000-liter oak vats, where the larger vessels respect the fruit, especially in a more fragile vintage like 2013. It's a very elegant and fresh Valbuena with a developed nose, quite classical with a fine texture, elegant tannins and a supple, long finish where the oak is still quite obvious. I liked it very much and consider it a triumph over the challenges of the year. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  5. Vega Sicilia Alion Ribera Del Duero 2013
    JS94
    WA94
    $74.98
    Availability:Out of Stock
94 Points! The careful selection of the grapes and the work directives even for the purchased grapes has clearly paid off in the 2013 Alión, which has great freshness and perfume. It was cropped from a relatively normal growing season, but with a cold September with some rains that provoked a slight delay in the picking and especially the seed for a severe sorting of the grapes. It's considered a challenging vintage in general, and the bottles produced are slightly less than in the healthier 2012. It's always pure Tempranillo from over 30-year-old vines in different villages: Pesquera, Padilla, Moradillo... It fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts after a three-day cold soak, followed by malolactic and 12-14 months in new French barriques. It might be a lighter vintage for Alión, but one that has a subtler profile and harmony. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, with a thread of acidity going through its core and lifting it up. An elegant Alión.  - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

94 Points! This inky red is ripe and concentrated, with currant, kirsch and boysenberry flavors, framed by espresso, licorice and black pepper notes. Well-integrated tannins support the fleshy texture, while citrusy acidity keeps this lively. Expressive and balanced, in the modern style. Best from 2018 through 2028. - Wine Spectator

  7. Castell d'Encus Thalarn 2013
    WA93
    $41.98
    Availability:In Stock
93 Points!  One of the most expressive Syrahs from Spain, the 2013 Thalarn carries the name of the village where the winery is located. It was fermented in stone lagares (from the 12th century!), oak vats and stainless steel tanks and then transferred to new French oak barrels for malolactic and 11 months élevage. The nose does not show the oak, as the herbal character is stronger. At first I got some animal aromas, faint leather and a touch of tempera paint that developed strong medicinal notes with time in the glass. At the same time it's quite a mineral, stony wine. The palate is medium-bodied, with a very fine texture and polished tannins, good acidity and length. It is still quite young and undeveloped so is in need of some time in bottle. It might improve with time but today I don't see it as the level of the previous vintages and the animal hint makes me a little hesitant. 19,600 bottles produced.  Luis Gutierrez, eRobertParker.com #219, June 2015

  8. Dominio del Aguila Ribera del Duero Vinas Viejas Picaro 2013
    WA92
    VM91
    $26.98
    Availability:In Stock
92 Points!  The 2013 Pícaro Tinto is Tempranillo with 5% Albillo from a mixture of north facing vineyards in the Sotillejo quarter of La Aguilera, the village of Burgos where they have all of their vineyards. They do not own a destemmer machine, so all of their wines ferment in full clusters and always with indigenous yeasts, in this case in cement vats. This 2013 had a shorter aging in barrel than the previous years and they also used a smaller percentage of new oak. This part of the village produces wines of great energy; the nose is fresh with an Atlantic, cool, herbal twist, representing the vintage, a year with a shorter vegetative cycle in the shape of red and black wild berries with some floral hints. This is an accessible, fresh and quite fruit-driven Ribera from a cool place in a cool vintage. The oak is very nicely integrated, with some spices and some grainy, slightly chalky tannins. Ideal for food. 8,000 bottles.  Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate #221

  10. Espectacle Montsant 2013
    WA96
Special Price $109.98 Regular Price $150.00
    Availability:In Stock
96 Points! This pure Garnacha from old vines in the village of La Figuera in Montsant showed a waterfall of red fruit and violets with subtle touches of spices in an elegant way. The palate is pure silk, quite fruit-driven with moderate acidity and silky tannins, but somehow I was expecting a little more tension and spark; I found it a little shy and not as vibrant as one would wish in a vintage like 2013. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com #227

  11. Castano Solanera Vinas Viejas 2013
    WA92
Special Price $9.98 Regular Price $16.00
    Availability:In Stock
92 Points! 2013 Solanera is a “Vinas Viejas” that differs from the Castano (100% Monastrell), as this blend is 70% Monastrell, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15 % Grenache, aged 10 months in French and American oak. Another difference from the Hecula is that it was aged equal parts in tank and the other half in French oak. The Solanera, which comes from relatively high-altitude limestone soils at 900 meters, has a dense purple color, a big sweet kiss of blueberry and blackberry fruit mixed with crushed chalk, a full-bodied mouthfeel, beautiful purity, density and richness. The oak is well concealed by the lavish fruit–the wine just amazing. Drink it over the next 2-3 years, as these powerhouses are best consumed in their exuberant and extroverted youth. - Robert Parker, eRobertParker.com
