  2. Familia Nin-Ortiz Priorat Planetes de Nin 2013
    WA93+
    VM92
    $39.98
    Availability:In Stock
93+ Points! The 2013 Planetes de Nin is mostly Garnacha with some 35% Cariñena from a vineyard in Porrera that names the wine. The Cariñena was harvested at the end of August, and the Garnacha after the 20th of September. The wine matured in 2,850-liter oak foudres and 3,200-liter amphorae for some 16 months. I first tasted it one month after bottling and it was very closed because of the operation. I had the feeling that it was a superb vintage and wanted to give the wines a chance, so I waited until now to give it time to rest and breathe. Well, that reductive character has disappeared. Furthermore, they think they have found the cause for that reductive character in the wine--there was a deficiency in the soil of the Garnacha that they have fixed with a natural compost and the results are good. Anyway, back to the wine, this 2103 is superb indeed. The wine has also gained in depth and feels more Porrera, more austere. In this vintage they started with some full clusters (which in 2014 was increased to 100%) and the result shows in a "sensation" of freshness rather than in analytical data. The palate shows incredibly fine and elegant, refined with sleek tannins. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com Learn More
  3. Celler Cal Pla Black Slate Porrera 2016
    JD94
    $16.98
    Availability:In Stock
94 Points! The 2016 Black Slate Porrera comes from a project of importer Eric Solomon focusing on the specific villages in the Priorat. The 2016 is 60% Grenache and 40% Carignan that was mostly destemmed and spent a full year in used barrels. Thrilling blue fruits, tar, rose petals, and a smoky, marine, iodine-like character all emerge from this full-bodied effort that opens up nicely with time in the glass. Tasting like it cost three times the price, it picks up more minerality with time in the glass, has beautiful balance, and great purity of fruit. It would be hard to find a better value. Drink bottles over the coming 3-5 years. - Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com Learn More
  4. Clos i Terrasses Priorat Clos Erasmus 2016
    JD99
    WA98+
    $169.98
    Availability:In Stock
99 Points! Not far off the magical 2013, the 2016 Clos Erasmus shows the purity and freshness of the vintage yet backs it up with rock star depth of fruit and richness. A huge nose of blueberries, crème de cassis, blood orange, and violets give way to a full-bodied Priorat that has flawless balance and purity, a stacked mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a finish that goes on for over a minute. This is pure, elegant, yet powerful Priorat at its finest. The 2016 is a blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah that spent 18 months in 40% new oak. Give bottles 2-3 years, count yourself lucky, and enjoy over the following 15-20 years. - Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com Learn More
  5. Clos i Terrasses Priorat Laurel 2016
    JD95
    WA95
    $39.98
    Availability:In Stock

95 Points! The 2016 Laurel is sensational stuff and, in truth, matches several older vintages of the grand vin in quality. A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 16 months in a mix of oak, concrete, and amphora, this deep purple-colored beauty offers up a fresh, vibrant bouquet of blueberries, crisp plums, violets, and spring flowers. Possessing full-bodied richness, beautiful depth of fruit and richness, and a fresh, elegant style, it’s a brilliant wine that’s going to evolve gracefully for 10-15 years. - Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com

  6. Clos Mogador Priorat 2016
    WA98
    $84.98
    Availability:In Stock
98 Points! Keeping the classical profile, the 2016 Clos Mogador has been fine tuned, reducing the French grapes, and it matured approximately 18 months in oak foudre and barriques. There is a lively sensation on the palate, vivacious and with very fine tannins. It has a meaty touch and feels really young , despite the long élevage. There is a strong mineral sensation on the palate, something that is a texture and mouthfeel rather than a flavor. This is an unusual, fresh vintage. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com Learn More
  7. Terroir Al Limit Priorat Arbossar 2014
    JS92
    WA94
Special Price $59.98 Regular Price $90.00
    Availability:In Stock
94 Points! The 2014 Arbossar is old-vine Cariñena from a north-facing slope (coster), fermented with natural yeast and matured in an oak foudre from Stockinger until bottling in June 2016. This is always a lighter colored, perfumed Cariñena, with the freshness of a north exposure, which in the warmer 2014 feels a little riper and certainly with a lot more tannins than the 2013. The idea for this wine is to ferment it and age it in cement, and remove the oak totally; this will happen from the 2015 vintage. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  8. Vall Llach Priorat Porrera 2014
    WS93
    WA93
    $56.98
    Availability:Out of Stock
93 Points! The village red 2014 Porrera is mostly Cariñena with 23% Garnacha from old vines on very steep slate slopes. It fermented in 225- and 500-liter oak barrels and small stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts and with daily pigéage for some 19 days. It matured for 14 months, with the Cariñena in 225- and 300-liter oak barrels and the Garnacha in 1,500-liter oak vats and clay amphorae. It feels like the juice from the old Cariñena tolerated the oak quite well, and the wine showed better balance and freshness than most of its siblings. It's quite extracted but showed more acidity, which compensated it so that it felt more balanced, in its own XL way. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate

  9. Mas Doix Priorat Les Crestes 2016
    WA92
    $21.98
    Availability:In Stock
92 Points! Grapes from younger vines are used for the 2016 Les Crestes, which is also released earlier. It's a blend of Garnacha with 20% Cariñena and 10% Syrah matured in second use French oak barrels for eight months. 2016 was a dry growing season saved by a cooler September with some rain, which resulted in a relaxed and long harvest of grapes with good ripeness and acidity. It's young, tender and aromatic, a gentle Priorat with a juicy palate and a fresh personality. Really attractive and pleasant. - Luis Gutierrez, robertparker.com Learn More
  10. Ritme Celler Priorat (Carignan) 2015
    $19.98
    Availability:In Stock
Helmed by the energetic, free-wheeling Albert Jané,  Ritme (Catalan for ‘rhythm’) Celler is based in La Vilella Alta, just north of Gratallops. The vineyards are steep and soils are mostly of the decomposed slate known locally as llicorella. The core holdings are 35- to 80-year-old bush vines of Garnatxa and Carignan (with a particular emphasis on Carignan—also known locally as Samsó or Carinyena) sprinkled with Garnatxa Blanca, Macabeu, and a few other varieties. These are planted in poor, rocky soil and tended and harvested by hand at extremely low yields for an intense natural concentration of flavor without heaviness. In short, Jané espouses a minimalist philosophy of respect for old vines, indigenous varieties, manual labor, and sensitive cellar handling.

  11. Herencia del Padri Priorat 2015
    $14.98
    Availability:In Stock
The Herencia del Padri Priorat 2015 is a beautiful not-so-little wine.  To us, it is a more refined mash up of Priorat, Russian River Zin and a top Cotes du Rhone; medium in color, densely packed with forest raspberry fruits and an all-around gulpable demeanor.  It is mostly old-vine Carignan and Grenache from the very upscale sub-zone of Porrera, with a smattering of Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah rounding out the final blend.

Magrez’s team does everything right, lavishing the same amount of attention on this wine as they do the ‘home team’ back in Bordeaux:

     - Manual harvest
     - Hand-sorting of the fruit
     - Fermentation and aging in one-year old French oak barrels

Previously, we were looking at $50+ for wines from this vineyard. Now, with the newer, wiser marketing plan in place, we have the ability to roll this one out on a direct buy at $14.98 for this exclusive Winex offer.

  12. Clos i Terrasses Priorat Clos Erasmus 2014
    WA97
    $169.98
    Availability:In Stock
97 Points! There is a little more Syrah in the blend of the 2014 Clos Erasmus, where it reached around 30% to complement the majority of Garnacha. As is the norm, the wine matured for some 18 months before bottling, with most of the volume in French oak barrels, 40% of which are renewed each vintage, but there are also one or two amphorae. I tasted it next to the 2013 and as the 2013 required so much attention, it took some time to get to the 2014. It showed a bit shy at first, but when I finally came back to it, I found that it had really blossomed with a mixture of violets, ground, smoky meat and black raspberries. The slight increase in Syrah was noticeable, but it somehow also seemed to increase the voice of the slate in the bottle...This is simply terrific. 3,000 bottles were filled at the end of May 2016. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate #227
