91 Points!  A beautiful effort for the vintage, the evolved dense ruby/purple-colored 2002 is already performing well. It offers smoky, toasty oak, jammy black currant, cranberry, and kirsch aromas, medium body, sweet tannin, and fine purity, length, and harmony. Enjoy it now and over the next 12+ years. - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #158

  3. Potinet-Ampeau Monthelie 1er Cru Les Champs-Fulliots 2002
    $44.98
    Availability:In Stock
Many folks aren’t familiar with Monthelie but the finest vineyards here, located in the southern part of the appellation, actually next to Volnay and, in the case of Les Champs-Fulliots, tucks in nicely with both Pousse d’Or’s heralded Volnay 1er Cru 60 Ouvrees and Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chenes. What a spot!  In excellent vintages like 2002, Champs-Fulliots ripens to perfection producing a wine that, after aging in Potinet-Ampeau's cool cellars, delivers a supreme value. The wine, from that aforementioned outstanding 2002 harvest, is ‘spot-on’, juicy, forward, extroverted, full of ripe, dark red cherry fruit, a subtle stony kiss and perfectly resolved tannins.

  4. Potinet-Ampeau Auxey Duresses 1er Cru Les Duresses 2002
    $39.98
    Availability:In Stock
Auxey-Duresses is an area you don’t hear much about, tiny in size, oozing out of the valley between Meursault and Volnay, just below Saint Romain.  Shockingly enough, there are actually nine premier cru vineyards here with Les Duresses considered one of the finest.  This one matches the Fulliots with fruit weight, maybe a little brighter, more elegant, and showing true Premier Cru breeding.

  7. Nikolaihof Riesling Steinriesler 2002
    VM96
Special Price $49.98 Regular Price $95.00
    Availability:In Stock
96 Points! The third such Riesling Vom Stein of Federspiel weight to be given an élevage formerly reserved for Smaragd-weight “Vinothek” offerings, this was only bottled in April 2015. There are refinements and complexities of aromatics, flavor and texture here that go far beyond those found today in the lovely “regular” 2002 Federspiel Vom Stein (tasted alongside and also covered in this report). Moreover, this wine tastes fresher, which may seem less surprising if one thinks for a moment about the difference in size between a bottle and a cask. Moss, lichen, forest floor and flor mingled on the nose with fresh apple and plum. Caressingly silken and buoyant, this spreads a midpalate carpet of incredibly intricate and subtle design as well as irresistible juiciness. A soaringly sustained finish introduces smoky, crystalline and stony elements along with a mouthwateringly saline savor reminiscent of clam juice.

  8. Peyre Rose Coteaux du Languedoc Clos des Cistes 2002
    WA93
Special Price $69.98 Regular Price $120.00
    Availability:Out of Stock
93 Points!  A big, ripe and voluptuous Syrah, with some maturity, the 2002 Languedoc Clos de Cistes has lots of currants, black raspberry, iodine and roasted meat-like aromas and flavors. Sweetly fruit, with full-bodied richness and a decadent, yet concentrated and balanced profile, it’s hard to resist now, but should also hold through 2020.  Jeb Dunnuck, eRobertParker.com #218, April 2015

These are big, rich, character filled and absolutely singular wines by proprietress Marlene Soria, who first came to the Languedoc in 1991. She fashions three cuvees; the Syrah heavy Clos de Cistes; the more Grenache dominated Marlene N3; and lastly, the Syrah Leone, which incorporates a splash of Mourvedre. Yields here are tiny, and the wines see long macerations followed by an extended élevage in tank and older foudre prior to bottling. While I believe the 2005s are the current releases, I was thrilled to be able to taste a small retrospective of each cuvee.

  10. Bollinger Extra Brut R.D. 2002
    WS96
    JS99
    VM96
Special Price $249.98 Regular Price $400.00
    Availability:In Stock
Super fresh, this is striking given the 10 years in the cellars; it has a fine citrus nose - plenty of lemon, grapefruit, yellow chalky notes, some lighter floral elements too. The palate is super dry (dosage at 3-4g) and there's a silky, sherbet-like texture, smooth, fine and long. The citrus flavours give way to the driving surging acidity, thunderous acidity, really driving and powerful. The finish twists very slowly through to light-toasted cashew fruit flavours, but lemon citrus prevails. This is thrilling Champagne. - James Suckling

  11. Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Altagracia 2002
    WA91
    $119.98
    Availability:In Stock
91 Points!  Everything is about quality, as evidenced by Araujo's second wine, the 2002 Altagracia. A selection of 650 cases that is about two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and equal parts (about 14% each) Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, this is one heck of a second wine. A beautifully fragrant nose of cedar wood, flowers, pepper, and spice box along with the telltale red and black fruit soars from the glass. On a much quicker evolutionary track than the Eisele Estate Cabernet, it is supple-textured as well as loaded with fruit and complexity. Already accessible, it possesses the balance and depth to evolve for 10-12 years. A sleeper selection, it is by no means a second wine in the pejorative sense of the word.  Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #157, February 2005

    WS97
    JD97
    $156.98

97 Points!  A powerhouse, with verve to the finely cut, racy acidity, showing a sense of finesse and seamless integration of the firm frame. The silky texture carries layer upon layer of toasted brioche, currant and pear pâte de fruit flavors, with notes of grated ginger and coconut, cappuccino foam and spun honey. Mineral accents of smoke, ground spice and fleur de sel build on the long, echoing finish. Drink now through 2032.  Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator Magazine, November 15, 2015
