91 Points!  Ripe, supple and velvety, impressive for the purity of its plum, currant and spice flavors that spill out of a generous frame. The flavors are in sharp relief, but the texture remains warm and inviting, folding its tannins into a gentle blanket. Lovely now. Best after 2000. 1,700 cases made.  Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator Magazine, May 15, 1998
Very dark healthy red. Aromas of berries, tar and sweet oak. Densely packed and stuffed with black- and red berry fruit; much sweeter than the Belles Soeurs. Still showing good bit of unabsorbed CO2. Finishes firmly tannic and persistent, with strong oakiness. Serious and backward, but rather monolithic today; a year or two of bottle aging may well bring more complexity. Rather high in alcohol at 14.5%, but the alcohol is nicely buffered by a wall of fruit. For the moment, I marginally prefer the more restrained '95 for its more vibrant, delineated flavors of tart red berries, but the '96 has more stuffing.  Stephen Tanzer, Vinous Media, March 1998
