Olivier Riviere Rioja Blanco Mirando Al Sur 2015
93+ Points! It seems like the effect of the Jerez barrels used to age the 2015 Mirando al Sur is weaker each year, so Olivier Rivière decided to not top up the barrels anymore in the 2016 vintage. This is still nutty and spicy, but the "flor" character is subtler, though it increased as the wine sat in the glass in contact with air. This is produced with the same village and the same process as La Bastid (the old Jequitibá), but then it is aged in Sherry butts for 12 months. It has pungent flavors and the dry and chalky texture of both the limestone soils and the Sherry wines. - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate
96 Points! Wow. This is fantastic, as always, with dried apple and pear character, and pineapple and honey undertones. Honeysuckle, too. Full body yet linear and fresh. So much energy. Aged in Manzanilla barrels. Drink now or hold. - James Suckling, jamessuckling.com
