Kaesler Shiraz Barossa Valley Old Vine 2013
Special Price $19.98 Regular Price $49.98
91 Points! Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2013 Shiraz Old Vine has notes of fertile earth, charcoal and yeast extract over the blackcurrant and black plum core with a hint of licorice. Powerful, concentrated and full-bodied on the palate, it offers shedloads of muscular fruit with a solid backbone of rounded tannins and a good long finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, robertparker.com
The Old Vine Shiraz block at Nuriootpa, from which some of the fruit is sourced, was spawned from The Old Bastard vineyard (est 1893). The Old Bastard is genetic material that only exists in Australia, its parentage being lost to Phylloxera in Europe in the 1880’s. The fruit from these vineyards was sold to various wineries over the years and often finding a home in some of the Barossa’s most prestigious blends. Kaesler Old Vine Shiraz has been consistently produced as an elegant wine, tight in its youth, a wine that is made to age. It represents a different style of Shiraz within the Kaesler portfolio, when compared to its bolder brothers, The Bogan and Old Bastard Shiraz. Growing conditions: Vineyard Soils Schist rock over blue grey clay (Marananga) / loam over clay (Nuriootpa) Vine Age 3 vineyard blocks aged 53, 49 and 29 years old.
