Caberrubia is an unfortified and ancestral style of Sherry that once was commonplace in Jerez. Caberrubia is harvested in early September, dried for 6-7 hours, then crushed by foot in lagars. The wine is then racked into botas, where indigenous yeast begins the fermentation. After fermentation, the wines with the most “Fino” character are racked into barrels leaving only a small space at top for the development of flor. Each year a selection of the most suitable casks is made to release a NV wine that expresses the fruit concentration and salinity characteristic of Carrascal.

93 Points! The 2023 Saint-Romain Sous la Velle offers aromas of grapefruit, pear and white peach framed by a deft touch of smoky reduction. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and textural, with plenty of chalky extract, it’s laden with racy acids and concludes with a long, saline, lemon-tinged finish. Made since 2001 from a number of Sonoma County vineyards, the 2023 Three Valleys blends 71% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 9% Petite Sirah, 2% each Mataro and Alicante Bouschet from Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Russian River Valley. Floral, it is complex and less rustic than usual, the vintage showing classic charm and elegance. Though it is one of Ridge's largest production wines, it is made in the exact same way as all its others, in open top tanks with real oak and native fermentations. It's meant to represent a vintage more than a location. A popular by-the-glass pour, order it when you see it. Vineyards: Six different plots all located in Rioja Alavesa at around 600 metres altitude, dating back to the 1940’s. It has a calcareous clay soil and gives low yields of 3500-4000 kg per hectare.

60% Tempranillo, 30% Graciano and 10% Viura

Winemaking: Fermentation takes place in foudre and concrete egg, using indigenous yeasts. The wine ages for approximately 13 months in foudre.

97 Points! Wild roses and wild strawberries, the nose has a lovely fragrance and expression. Lifted and bright, this has such a beautiful delicacy to it, a creamy, chalkiness comes from the fine tannins with bright, succulent strawberry and raspberry leaf elements. You feel the savoury side too, the sweet vanilla spice and dried herb aspect which counter the fruit and the high acidity. I adore the finesse here, the sharp fruit giving the energy and the chalky texture giving the layers. Feels well controlled, powerful yet delivered with poise. It doesn't have so much overt weight, it's definitely more ethereal in terms of density, but the nuance of flavour is thrillingly captivating and this has a long lifted finish. A contemplative wine that keeps you wanting more and more. Made in new winery facilities in Fiesole. Grapes were picked from the best six vineyards; Vincigliata, Olmo, Londa, Lamole, Montefili and Siena with each divided into parcels and harvested up to eight times to get the perfect ripening points. Natural and indigenous fermentation in open top barriques (225l) for smaller parcels and 50hl cask or stainless steel tanks for larger plots. After 7-10 days of maceration, the parcels are moved into old barriques and 50hl casks for 20 months. - Decanter Magazine

94 Points! The Bibi Graetz 2020 Testamatta is brilliant and vertical with a terrific sense of purity. The bouquet opens to tart cherry and cassis. The wine is vertical and lifted, and the acidity is nicely highlighted. Doc’s Blender hand-selected the whiskeys from each puncheon and skillfully blended them for this limited release and aptly named it L’ESPRIT — French for “the spirit.” L’ESPRIT is one of three limited bourbons that complete the Mind, Body, and Spirit line, named for their contributions to the Doc Swinson’s Alter Ego Triple Cask Bourbon.

This limited single finish expression allows you the chance to experience one of the individual pieces of the whole, all outstanding on their own at cask strength.

The not so new any longer Ardnamurchan distillery is shaping up to be one of Scotland's most exciting. Every single bottling takes ratchets up the quality to new heights. This extremely delicious 100% Sherry Cask Aged release was drawn from 10 peated sherry butts and 15 unpeated sherry hogsheads aged entirely in Ardnamurchan's warehouses on the rugged western coast of Scotland. The resulting whisky is complex and delicious offering quality that few modern distillers can match. Expect a beautifully balanced bonfire smoke melding with dense nutty sherry. We rarely see such special whisky available, but only 2000 bottles for the entire US, it surely won't be for long.

E.H. Taylor, Jr. Straight Rye Whiskey is a Bottled-in-Bond release made from a mash bill of rye and malted barley, with no corn, resulting in a whiskey that showcases rye’s bold, spicy character. Its rich mahogany hue reflects the careful aging process.

On the nose, it offers an inviting mix of toasted oak, rye spice, black pepper, mint, and subtle notes of pear. The palate opens with a burst of rye spice and pepper, balanced by caramel sweetness, fresh mint, and hints of citrus. The whiskey’s oily texture coats the mouth, enhancing the complexity of flavors. The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, anise, and a gentle touch of oak.

This Barbera is produced from grapes harvested in the “Garblet” vineyard (also known as “Fiasco”) of Castiglione Falletto from a 0.8 hectare plot on a south-southeast facing slope at 250 meters altitude. The major part of the vineyard was planted in 1970 with a portion being replanted in 1993.  The “Sori del Drago” is fermented at 28 degrees Celsius for slightly more than a week. The wine is then racked into stainless steel tank and is aged for 15 to 18 months before being bottled (unfiltered). 

Who needs Sancerre when you have Quincy? This is a blend of several plots of Sauvignon on alluvial sand and gravel atop clay-limestone subsoil wiht an average vine age of 45 years. Harvested slightly overripe to seek ripe fruit and richness on the palette. Pneumatic pressing, undergoes a cold pre-fermentation maceration in temperature-controlled inox , as means to search for a balance between freshness and fruitiness according to the vintage. The wines are then racked onto their fine lees and aged for a few more months. Aging 6 months.

The Jurançon Sec “Part Davant” comes from a 4 ha southeast-facing plot at 250-300m planted to 50% Gros Manseng, 30% Petit Manseng, 20% Petit Courbu in 1950/2010 on a steep hill of “Poudingue de Jurançon” bedrock with a shallow clay topsoil. It’s natural fermentation lasts for about 60 days in oak foudre at 20°C max. Aged on lees for 8 months in 25-hl foudre (66%), amphora (34%). Full malolactic fermentation. Light filtration and with 50mg/L total sulfur. Residual sugar: 2g/L (dry).

100 Points! The perfect 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon checks in as 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot, all of which spent 22 months in 80% new French oak. The idea of this release is to showcase fruit from throughout the valley, and to say that winemaker Chris Carpenter succeeded would be an understatement. It boasts off-the-charts richness and depth as well as notes of cassis, toasted spices, graphite, tobacco, and espresso, with perfectly integrated oak. Inky purple-hued, full-bodied, voluptuously textured, and flawlessly balanced, it can be drunk any time over the coming 25 years or more. - Jeb Dunnuck

98 Points! In my tasting with winemaker Chris Carpenter, we talked at length about differentiating sub-appellations of Napa in the Lokoya wines. Still, with Cardinale, the Oakville-based crown jewel in the Jackson Family portfolio, the idea is the sum must be greater than the parts. This is not an estate wine. It is culled from multiple appellations, typically between three and nine, depending on the vintage. Sources have been Vine Hill Ranch and To Kalon in the past. The 2021 is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon from Stags Leap, Rutherford, and St. Helena, with 9% Merlot from the 24ha Keyes Estate Vineyard on Howell Mountain, aged 22 months in 80% new French oak. Super savoury aromatics of black cherry, cedar, black liquorice, graphite, black tea, tobacco leaf, rose petal and sagebrush. Full-bodied with all those aromatic qualities making appearances on the full-bodied palate, framed by a soaring tannin profile that resolves with beautifully crisp and mouthwatering acidity, which is so impressive given the density of the wine. The acidity is so pure and cleansing it gives the sensation of fresh, crisp mountain water washing away the deeply robust and powerful tannins that frame this powerhouse wine, readying you for another sip. - Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter Magazine

A special, limited edition release honoring Dia de Los Muertos with 5,000 hand-numbered bottles of uniquely made tequila presented in specially made coffin boxes with three unique combinations of badges on their tops.

G4 is crafted using enhanced traditional methods, and Felipe knows that the fermentation process is where the magic happens, de Madera is fully fermented in new Pine Wood tanks vs. steel. This imparts a great deal of unique flavors into the tequila. Add to the wood-fermentation the use of well water in this expression and seven months of aging in G4's nearly ancient George Dickel American whiskey barrels. The layers of complexity in this G4 are entirely unique and highly complex.

The Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak from the Kogei Collection is a limited release from the Yamazaki distillery, showcasing the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and creative whisky-making. Introduced in 2024, this expression emphasizes the concept of “kogei,” which refers to traditional Japanese artisanal work.

This single malt stands out due to the use of peated malt—a nod to Islay’s smoky style—combined with maturation in Spanish oak casks. The Spanish oak adds layers of depth, resulting in a whisky with flavors of dark mocha, raisins, and almonds. On the palate, the whisky has a velvety texture with rich, roasted cacao notes, while the finish is described as bittersweet, with hints of caramelized baking spices

92 Points! ...the organic Pieropan 2024 Soave Classico is a favorite bottle from Northern Italy for very good reason. This simple expression of Garganega (blended with 15% Trebbiano di Soave for extra richness) offers nice freshness, mineral tones and sweet primary fruit that recalls freshly cut apple and white peach. This was not an easy vintage by any stretch, but this white wine comes out fighting. The Pieropan family does a terrific job with this entry-level release of 560,000 bottles. The grapes are sourced over 60 hectares on volcanic soils, and the wine sees a brief five to six months in cement tank. Awesome levels of blackcurrants, darker cherries, roasted herbs, chocolate, and scorched earth all emerge from the 2022 Château Malartic-Lagravière, an incredibly concentrated, rich, layered beauty that has velvety tannins, a deep, layered mid-palate, and a blockbuster finish. It's easily the finest I've tasted from this château and is a riveting 2022 that deserves 4-6 years in the cellar and will keep for two decades or more. The 2022 is based on 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, with the élevage spanning 20 months in 60% new French oak.  - Jeb Dunnuck

96 Points! Round, concentrated, vibrant and dynamic, a lovely burst of intense red and black fruits before quite serious tannins take hold in the mouth. Fine but full, they give the frame and the structure, setting the tone for a serious wine while the fruit and freshnes softly expand giving an aerial element to the finish. A lovely wine with intensity and detail, not the most demonstrative or juicy and appealing right now, but really well made and delivered. Supple, bright, chalky, chewy, this wine has intensity and precision. A little bit serious towards the end, the fruit just losing some focus, where it becomes more about the tannins and freshness but lots to like here with good potential. 1.5% Cabernet Franc. 95 Points! The 2022 Malartic Lagravière exudes class. Bright, layered and wonderfully vibrant, the 2022 is so alive. Rose petals, lavender, crushed rocks, mint and red/purplish fruit race across the palate. All the elements are so well balanced.
