92 Points! The aromatics of the 2023 Evodia give justice to the name, which in old Greek means "fragrance," and it has high-lifted aromatics, floral, elegant and ethereal. In 2023, they used 15% full clusters for the fermentation, and the élevage was in concrete, with 20% in used 225-liter barrels and 10% in oak vats, and lasted five months. It has a bright ruby color and an extroverted nose. This is ripe, hedonistic and outspoken, showy and juicy, with very good ripeness and 14.8% alcohol, but it comes through as balanced with a pH of 3.68 and 6.1 grams of acidity. You just want to keep smelling it as it unfurls in the glass. The quality is clearly beyond its price point; it's an amazing value for money. From the importer: Blaufrankisch is the variety that has lifted Roland Velich and the Moric estate into the stratosphere of wine producers. The Reserve bottling is the estate's flagship wine, only topped by very limited old vine bottlings known as Alte Reben. Comparatively, the Moric Reserve is a cuvee of some old and middle-aged vines from the Lutzmannsburg plateau, every bit as fine and age-worthy as the old-vine bottlings, and showing sone extra freshness and liveliness that some of the not-quite-as-ancient vines at to the mix. A fine and velvety tannin structure is balanced by good acidity and minerality. Sour cherry and blackberry mingle with herbaceous notes, forest floor, and subtle salinity, truly satisfying and inviting Blaufrankisch, with a good and prolonged finish. Just delicious wine and likely one of the most balanced vintages of late.

96-97 Points! An excellent wine from this challenging vintage. It shows good depth and density of fruit with fine, silky tannins, but it’s nevertheless reactive. Juicy and quite polished, with a round core of fruit on the medium-bodied palate before a long, elegant finish. 94-97 Points! The 2024 Larcis Ducasse is dense, powerful and imposing, almost surprisingly so. All of the wine's instensity is in the mid-palate. Black cherry, plum, mocha, lavendar, chocolate and cinnamon meld together in the glass, but it is the wine's mind-blowing balance that stands out the most. This is another stellar showing from Larcis Ducasse. There's real potential here. Tasted four times.

A London Dry Gin developed by Elena Penna Currado and Luca Currado Vietti of the iconic Piedmont-based Vietti winery. Elena Gin is a spirit of regional provenance and features native botanicals from the Italian Alps of Piedmont including juniper berries, almonds, Langhe thyme, coriander seeds, black elderflower, Angelica, wild mint, chamomile, cassia bark, and the peel and flowers of organically-grown citrus fruits from the Ligurian hills bordering Piedmont. Made in small batches, Elena Gin is produced using two heirloom wood-fired pot stills from the 18th century that were refurbished for production. Elena Gin is made in the “one shot” method, where the delicate botanicals are only used once to highlight the aromatic compounds at their finest. Made entirely of organically grown Teroldego grapes, picked around the end of September; bunches are entirely destemmed, 50% of the berries are left whole; fermentation is sometimes carried out with indigenous yeast, sometimes with cultivated yeast, depending on the vintage. Fermentation and maceration take place in both wooden and unlined cement fermenters, for a total of up to 40-50 days. The wine is aged in French oak barrels of between 2,500 and 4,000 liters capacity and in unlined cement tanks for about 10 months. About 2,500 cases are produced.

Color is a gorgeous opaque violet-tinged purple; on nose and palate the wine makes me think of cooler-climate Syrah with hints of Cabernet Franc, very berryish, meaty, some Assam tea notes, some herbal notes, rusty/meaty hints, big but not at all bitter. Fresh palate, long finish with almond note.

Demougeot’s Pommard has a good balance of characteristics drawn from two very different village parcels. A blend of unusual names, La Rue au Porc and En Boeuf, in English could be looselytranslated as Pork Street and In Beef—wines apparently good with food... La Rue au Porc was planted in 1948 and is composed of deep clay and limestone rock topsoil—the muscle and weight of  the wine. En Boeuf is in the Grande Combe, a somewhat narrow valley far to the west of the appellation on the north hill facing south on a steep slope of shallow rocky topsoil all closer to forests and in the direct path of colder winds from the countryside to the west, presenting almost a complete contrast to La Rue au Porc.
