A selection from three older-vine plots in Vosne: ‘Aux Raviolles,’ ‘Au Dessus de la Rivere’ and ‘Aux Ormes,’ with a mix of clay and limestone soils, mostly east-facing. Aromas of blackberry, red cherry, minerals. Juicy and spicy; lots of fresh, red/black fruit. 

From a .54-hectare plot in Corgoloin below the forest line in a lieu-dit called La Montagne—vines were planted in the 1980s.

Ampeau's Savigny-les-Beaune is drawn from a single plot in Aux Fourneaux on the vineyard's lower section (with village designation). The vines came from Michel's mother's side in the 1940s after the marriage of his parents.

Monthelie "Vieilles Vignes" is drawn from three parcels amounting to 1 hectare of vines planted in 1976. Among Garaudet's holdings is a plot in Les Toisières. This lieu-dit abuts Meursault Premier Cru Les Caillerets. The soils are of clay-limestone loam composition over a limestone substrate. 12 months aging in 30% new oak.

A picture-perfect example of the elegant complexity and aromatic intensity of the best of Vosne. Here the Vigots combine fruit from two plots, ‘La Colombière,’ near the heart of the village and planted in 1979/1980, and ‘La Croix Blanche,’ at the border with Nuits, planted in 1947/1948. (Know that Mugneret-Gibourg’s Vosne villages sources fruit from these same vineyards!) Silky, refined, sublime.

The Capron-Charcousset Savigny Les Beaune 2008 is great follow-up to the previous Villages Savigny from their plots in Les Pimentiers we sold a couple of years back. It’s a prime example of what we do, sourcing classic older Burgundy, perfectly stored, and bringing it direct to you at insane prices. Savigny Les Beaune is one of the most underpriced appellations in Burgundy. The soils are great, the exposures varying, and the producers in this village all finely tuned in to making wonderful Pinot Noir.

As opposed to that previous wine from Capron, the style here is open, giving, with fantastic aromas of savory red cherry, spice. This one jumps straight out of the bottle, no waiting required! The youth and vigor here are remarkable, this wine is still young at 16 years of age but is ready to rock. We believe their parcels in Le Village and Dessus les Gollardes form the backbone of this delicious bottle of Pinot Noir.

Armand Heitz Échezeaux Grand Cru 2021 at $599.98 is one of the most intelligent ways to buy into Grand Cru Burgundy right now. In a market where top Échezeaux bottlings routinely push well into four figures, this sits under $600 while delivering serious terroir, thoughtful regenerative farming, and a producer on the rise rather than one trading on hype. The 2021 vintage was frost-reduced and cooler, producing lower yields and more classical, red-fruited, finely structured wines with vibrant acidity and long aging potential. For collectors who value transparency, balance, and site expression over power and speculation, this is a savvy, allocation-worthy Burgundy that feels both disciplined and forward-thinking.

From Armand: My family owned and traded grand crus on the Cote de Nuit until the 1960s. It is therefore with great pride that I manage to pay homage to my ancestors by working these cuvées. The plots of this mythical grand cru are located between Clos Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée. At the time, they belonged to the Abbey of Cîteaux. With a very warm and very early vintage, I was quite worried about the style of the wines. With a nice mastery of the whole harvest, the wine reassures me completely. Incredibly dense, fresh and complex. This grand cru holds its own.

95 Points! Deep, bright red. Knockout vibrant nose combines purple and red berries, crushed stone, violet and animal fur. Lush, thick and deep but with terrific chalky energy animating the middle palate. Conveys striking depth to its red fruit and floral flavors, with the 45% new oak practically invisible today. Finishes with huge but round, noble tannins and outstanding lingering sweetness. ‘Clos de la Roche’ is found near the forest line in Dracy-le-
Fort, touching premier cru ‘Champs Lalot,’ at the northern edge of the Givry appellation. Soils here are richer, with limestone and clay, 30+ year-old vines. Aromas of sweet spice, light pepper, red and black fruit. Tangy, concentrated flavors of red cherries and raspberries.

94 Points! The bright red 2022 Pinot Noir West Sonoma Coast has lifted notes of alpine herbs, red berries, compact bright berries, bay leaf, and fresh roses. The 2021 Bourgogne Rouge from Domaine Louis Boillot is another very stylish and nicely red fruity example. The nose delivers a fine range of red plums, cherries, cocoa powder, fresh herb tones and a lovely base of soil. The 2016 Pinot Noir le Caprice is pale to medium ruby-purple colored with an incredible perfume of red roses, lilacs and cinnamon stick with a beautiful red berry core of wild strawberries, raspberries, cranberries and underbrush with touches of iron ore and wild sage plus a waft of cedar. 96 Points! From a vineyard the Gerrie family planted in 1993 that sits around the winery, the 2022 Pinot Noir Louise Vineyard reveals a beautiful woodsy profile, with notes of mossy earth and higher-toned red fruit shining through, with cranberries, darker red fruits, and Asian spices. It has a chiseled structure, with fine compact tannins, a refreshing lift, and notes of tea leaf on its long finish. 93 Points! A medium red color, the 2019 Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard is spicy and classic on the nose, with notes of dried cherries, baking spices, anise, and dried alpine herbs. Well-balanced and complex on the palate, this medium-bodied red takes on a good deal of character, with a core of ripe concentration and a long-lasting finish. Sexy aromas of black fruits, spices, dried flowers, licorice, espresso and chocolate. Juicy, penetrating and high-pitched in the mouth, with lovely floral and mineral lift to the complex flavors of red and darker fruits, leather and pepper. In a very upright, firmly structured style, and not at all exotic. From the winery: Riviera is a beautiful ruby red Pinot Noir, with a slight transpar- ency that showcases the delicate hue of the wine. It boasts an enticing aroma of red fruit, including cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, with subtle undertones of earthiness and spice. Hints of vanilla and oak impart a delicate complexity to the wine. On the palate, Riviera is vibrant and well-balanced, with bright acidity and medium tannins that add structure to the wine. The flavors of cherry and raspberry continue from the nose to the palate, accompanied by notes of black tea and hints of clove and cinnamon.

Perfectly exposed to the southeast, this walled vineyard sits high up on the slope, and with its pure limestone soils, delivers a more refined, layered and complex red Burgundy.

Absolutely bursting with blue and red fruits, the concentration is deceptive here, as it starts out juicy and full of air, but after a few minutes in the glass you start to feel the weight and the texture, and this turns into an extremely serious wine with real tannic hold. Gorgeous savoury finish, as you get so often in the best Burgundies, where weightlessness is such a brilliant veil to the power behind. 55% whole cluster. - Decanter Magazine

98 Points! The 2018 Clos de Tart Grand Cru was wonderful from barrel but now it seems to have gone up another level. It has an exquisite bouquet with wonderful mineralité infusing the brambly red fruit. Wonderful focus and quite profound complexity. You could nose this forever. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled tannins married with a killer line of natural acidity. Everything is perfectly proportioned in this wine, very persistent with layers of dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and tea leaf on the finish. Immense.
