92+ Points! The 2015 Riesling Spätlese Vols I (AP 08 16) is sourced from almost 55-year-old vines in the eponymous vineyard that is officially part of the Wiltinger Braunfels. The wine opens with a ripe and subtly intense Riesling bouquet with floral and herbal aromas. Round, finessed and piquant on the palate, this is a gorgeously lush and intense yet precise and frisky Riesling of remarkable elegance, mineral grip and tension. The finish is long, complex and salty and very stimulating, although the 2015 is still very young. - Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com
91 Points! Sourced, as usual, entirely from the Braunfels Einzellage (whose prime portion was traditionally known as “Vols” or “Volz”) and with its Wiltingen origin buried in small print (the presentation label just shows “VOLS I”), this subtly sweet Riesling of just 9.5 percent alcohol is dominated by scents and fleshy, juicy presence of ripe cherry. A suffusion of mint lends cooling satisfaction on the polished, ultra-buoyant palate, leading to a finish of soothing yet refreshing length, to which subtle suggestions of stone and peat add intrigue. Here is one of numerous instances in the present collection where around 10 grams of acidity are noticeable only insofar as the wine’s residual sugar is largely canceled out and the tongue left lightly tingling. - David Schildknecht, Vinous Media
