Many of you guys know this terrific story by now…
Felipe Staiti Wines is another ‘riff’ on Marcelo Pelleriti’s ‘rock star’ projects with famous Argentine musicians, this time he’s partnering up with famous Argentine guitarist Felipe Staiti, founding member of Los Enanito Verdes (Little Green Dwarfs), a HUGE rock band in their native Argentina.
As a matter of fact, Marcelo has known Felipe for a while seen as both are originally from Mendoza, love wine, play guitar and, well, here’s the rest.
They produce two wines together, one being a unique blend of Malbec and Syrah (Vertigo, new release coming soon!) and the other being this supple, fresh, dark, inviting Malbec, both sourced from high-density, low-yielding vines in the Vista Flores sub-zone of Mendoza.
These wines are near and dear to Felipe and Marcelo, this is not a ‘absentee celebrity winemaker’ project where they fly in on their helicopter for an hour then roll back out again, this is hands-on stuff.
Marcelo gives these wines the same ‘star’ treatment that he does the wine at Chateau Le Gay and Chateau La Violette in Pomerol, where he is also the winemaker. There, the results are 100-point wines, but perhaps at a $200 price.
In Mendoza? The odds tip way in your favor. The same winemaking techniques and grape growing can be done on a much more budget level, meaning the same know-how results in wines that deliver serious value, as expected nowadays from this neck of the woods.
The Felipe Staiti Malbec Mendoza Euforia 2015 comes from the family vineyard, situated at the foot of the Andes Mountains in the heart of the Uco Valley, one of the main viniculture regions in Argentina. It is located at a distance of 120 kilometers from the city of Mendoza in the Clos de los Siete group of properties in Vista Flores, Tunuyán.
