To all Wine Exchangers,
Y'know how some wines just grab you?  This may be the ultimate 'grabber' of the great 2013 Brunello vintage for yours truly.
Sitting down a few months ago with the latest Brunello from Piancornello was an invigorating, unexpected experience.  Sure, this property owned by the Pieri family had been making some seriously good wine under the stewardship of Claudio Monaci for a couple of decades, but what hit our glasses that fateful afternoon was like nothing I've ever tasted from this property before.
It's easy to spot the best wines.  First, you can smell them.  The Piancornello Brunello di Montalcino 2013's aromatics soared from the glass, spice box, macerated cherry, leather, this wine had the profile of one of Montalcino's greats, more akin to something from Biondi Santi or Soldera than the 'industry standard'.  It certainly got our attention.
Then we took a look at the location.  Piancornello is another featured winery on the south side of Montalcino, which excelled in this cooler, more classic vintage.  And, when you throw in Piancornello's enlightened traditional approach to winemaking, we knew the potential was awesome.  Based on how this wine smelled, we were halfway there.
And the palate certainly sealed the deal, filling the mouth with layers of ample, refined, balanced Sangiovese fruit.  Quite simply, we were blown away by what we tasted, for sure this was the finest wine that Piancornello had ever produced.  Potential realized.
Vinous Media's Ian d'Agata gave the 2013 Piancornello one of his highest scores of the vintage, remarking, "Deep red-ruby. Highly perfumed, mineral aromas of raspberry, red cherry, violet and iron. Wonderfully sappy but youthfully imploded in the mouth, this remarkably precise and well-delineated Brunello offers an extremely refined set of flinty red and black fruit herbal flavors. Finishes with a firm edge of tannins and very good floral and spicy lift. An outstanding, very pure and deep wine that really needs about a decade of patience. One of the Brunellos of the vintage. 96 points."
Boom.  When you combine that with our hot pricing on this gem you have yourself a must-purchase.
