To all Best Winers,
How did we manage to finagle magnums of Chianti Classico’s top normale, in a terrific vintage, at nearly 50% off?
The curse. The curse of the ‘89’ strikes!
Really? How the heck did this wine score an ‘89’ from Antonio Galloni. How?
This is silly. Galloni himself wrote, “In 2007, I have only tasted the Chianti Classico so far, but if that wine is indicative, Felsina could have another superb vintage in store for fans of this venerable property.”
Does that sound like ‘89’ to you? It doesn’t to us, either.
We’ve tried the wine. If its 89 points I’ll eat my shoe (I’m writing this barefoot just in case…TMI?). It’s a terrific example of straight-up Chianti Classico, from a terrific vintage, from arguably Chianti’s finest producer.
Oh, and the best part. Remember, these are magnums. Deliciously huge 1.5 liter bottles of pure Sangiovese goodness.
Typically these bad boys retail for $63 a mag. For you? Today? $34.88 a mag, which is darn close to 50% off. They look cool, they taste great and there’s only 42 of them (ok, maybe 41, or 40, I’m still deciding on how many for myself).
“If you were to cut (Felsina) proprietor Giuseppe Mazzocolin’s veins the man would bleed Sangiovese, such is his passion for Tuscany’s most important native grape.”- Antonio Galloni
