The Hewitt Vineyard in Rutherford must be a pretty special piece of dirt to have made the long-time Duckhorn winemaker leave one of the most revered posts in Napa. And indeed it is a beautiful “tract of land”, capable of producing some of the top Cabernet grapes in the entire valley. Deep color, lots of black fruit, big but agile, one serious drink. If you are paying Napa Cab prices, this one delivers for the money! Spectator 94.
Rutherford's Hewitt Vineyard must be a pretty special piece of dirt to have made the long-time Duckhorn winemaker leave one of the most revered posts in Napa. And indeed it is a beautiful "tract of land", capable of producing some of the top Cabernet grapes in the entire valley. This 2005 is a case in point and a great Cab for the money! From Wine Spectator, "Intense and concentrated, big and expressive, with layers of ripe currant, plum, sage, pencil lead and black cherry, all flowing rather seamlessly. Tightly focused, this is rich without being heavy, ending with a long, persistent finish. Drink now through 2014."
