FRESCOBALDI 2006 MORMORETO NIPOZZANO

  

This wine impressed us a couple of times, both here in our offices as well as at a special event put on by Leonardo Frescobaldi himself.  Leonardo decided to show this one, non-blind, on the same table as Haut Brion, Sassicaia, Dominus...you get the picture.  The wine definitely held its own with competition that was 2-5 times the price.  The blend here is mostly Cab with a nice dollop of Merlot, some Franc and a splash of Petit  Verdot.  It seems this terroir in Rufina is suited towards Bordeaux varieties, as the estate has been growing them on and off for over a century!  Full-bodied, with a generous helping of cassis, cocoa and sweet herb, this one’s actually kind of flashy considering the area and general youthfulness of the wine, but look for it to develop nicely with a decade in the cellar.
