VILLA FULVIA 2005 RIPASSO

  

 We’re currently encountering a long string of pretty interesting Valpolicella wines making their way through the distribution channels to Winex.  Don’t know why exactly, but we would guess it’s a combo of better vintages and better winemaking.  Whatever the reason, we’re seeing a lot of wines like this juicy number from Villa Fulvia, a new winery for us but one that’s been producing wine since the 1920’s!  The current regime has decided to step things up quality-wise and export some goods to the US.  Great news for us, as this one has a dense ruby color, loads of dried black fruit flavors, no oak mucking up the works and a distinctive earthy note that we could only lovingly call “old school”.   Went great with some milk-braised pork and polenta, and improved with an hour of air. Surprising depth and authority for the fare .
