Sangiovese
Sangiovese is the most widely-planted grape in Italy, and is used in some of Italy’s finest wines, especially including but not limited to Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Grown since at least the 16th century, Sangiovese can make light, fruity reds or age-worthy classics. Typically lighter in color than many other grapes, Sangiovese is often blended with other grapes to add color. The best Sangiovese dry reds deserve their world-class status. There’s Sangiovese grown in other places too, but Italy is where the best examples are born.
