Lagrein
Lagrein is unusually rare, with plantings only in northern Italy and a few acres in Australia and California. The wines are usually quite dark and full-bodied, with fairly high levels of both tannins and acidity, requiring some care in the winemakers’ cellars. Lagrein likes barrel aging prior to bottling, and can age well. Pair it with hearty fare.
